I've searched the internet for info on this, and I've seen differing opinions and experiences.  Do any of you drive a Mini Cooper (or know someone who does), and fits a bike either inside of it or on it either by roof rack or rear mounted rack?  I'm buying a Mini Cooper Hardtop in a few days, and am trying to figure out all the bike details with it.  Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.  Any pictures would also help!  Thanks!

I don't have my Mini anymore (lost it in the divorce, miss it soooo much!) but I had to take both wheels off to get my bike in the car. Even then it was a tough squeeze, especially if you have someone in the passenger seat. I tried racking it on the back, but it took up too much of the rear windshielf, plus the bike stuck out further than the width of the car, which was disconcerting to me whilst driving. I wound up getting the installed roof rack, and I liked it.

I have a Mini Cooper (not the S).  I have a trailer hitch on it!  Yes, really!  I'm not at home so I can't post pics, but I will later today.  It is hidden behind this rubber oval thing on the back bumper. It won't work on the S, or if you have the rear fog light thing there.  The rubber thing pops off and you just insert the bike rack, perfect and easy!  I think it cost about $300, I got a free installation because my son works at an auto body shop, and I"m not sure how much the actual bike rack cost, it holds 2 bikes.

Congrats! I love my Short Bus!

Buying this rack was the best investment I made with this car. I bought it from the dealer (its a MINI rack) and it was dealer installed. With bikes on it, it reclines so the hatch can still be opened and the bikes end up standing on the ground. It's perfect.

I am not a fan of putting a bike in the back of the Mini as you have to take the wheels off. Not complaining about the space in a Mini (holds more than most realize), but I don't think I would have been happy at all with the bike in the back. I drove cross country twice with 2 bikes on the back and the inside full of luggage. It was great!

And it is dirty, this was during one of the trips

I'm sorry...  I didn't get a chance to post pics... ran my first 12 miles ever, and am exhausted, so I'll try to get those up for you tomorrow!

I drove a Mini cooper S for 7 years, my bike would fit inside. I had to take off the front wheel, lay down the back seats, lay down the passenger side seat (back folded forward), and then it was sort of like playing the old video game Tetris. Everything would fit but only just.

I can easily manage doing all this myself, and it's pretty quick.  The actual bike rack came with a converter for a 2" hitch, mine is a 1 1/4".  Hope this helps.  I LOVE my Mini!!!  This is my second!

It fits!!!!  I'll post pictures after my ride on Sunday!  Woo Hoo!  Not only does it fit inside, but it's a piece of cake to get it in there.  All I have to do is take the front tire off.  I'm definitely getting a bike rack, but not for a couple months.  This is fantastic for now!
