anyone have opinions on the difference between these two shops? customer service or otherwise? they seem comparable in terms of prices and even what they put on sale...

They are owned by the same company. Main difference is Performance carries more higher end stuff. I have dealt with both, prefer Performance because it is closer to me so my stuff gets here quicker!

Yeah, nashbar seems to have more of the discount/closeout focus. I prefer performance because they have regular 20%-off coupons plus 10% back on Team Performance membership. TP membership gives you an upgrade to 2-day shipping also, which is nice.

The same investor group owns nashbar, performance and Supergo.

I've had experience with both. Nashbar has been easy to work with on returns and I feel like they have a higher variety of more affordable gear- more cheap girlie tops, larger variety of trail shorts (which I wear as often as the suck me cycle shorts).  I don't keep a lot of cycling clothing, so after 2 seasons, some of my low cost stuff will need to be replaced. Oh and Nashbar is quick to ship to me.  Just placed my first order with Performance (thanks bear for coupon info!) and they forgot to put my shorts in the box with my other stuff. No biggie, a quick phone call and new ones are on their way.  Took almost 10 days to get the stuff to me tho. I'd use both again.

Happy Shopping!

I agree Nashbar does have much better customer service, but neither of them can beat the prices of cambria bikes or the service.  I shopped aroung quite a bit looking to upgrades all my components to Ultegra, and Cambria had the best prices, even with the "blow out deal"

Cheaper shipping too.

So I would check them out.

That's a pretty sweeping generalization there, Jason. For instance, I just bought a supply of tubes from Performance, with discounts they came to $1.46 each, don't see anything aapproaching that at Cambria. Actually, I never heard of them, but I'll comparison shop there going forward.

Now you have carte blanche to go out and spend $1000+ per year on cycling gear, knowing that you'll be amassing those fabulous TP points!

Definately Nashbar!! I get prompt shipping and have never had a problem returning merchandise. Placed and order with Performance 4 weeks ago and still have not received it. I called them to find ot what happened they said there was a problem with one item I had ordered and they were sending me a postcard to notify me. They have my home phone # on file and we do have an answering machine if we are not available. To me that is pretty poor service that they could not call and clariify. Maybe just a on time problem??

Performance is starting to get into Triathlon gear now, too. Nashbar has remained focused on cycling.

It pays to shop around the 3 stores (Nashbar, Performance, SuperGo). Sometimes the same item will be on sale at one and not at the other.

I need some tri shorts, and did a Froogle search today. Came up with a company called Sports Basement ( http://www.sportsbasement.com/index.jsp) where I ordered a couple of pairs of tri shorts for $20 each and a couple of swim briefs for $10 each! I know nothing about them but that's the lowest prices I've found recently.
