Total Time = 2h 00m 4s
Overall Rank = 62/101
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 6/11
Pre-race routine:

Good sleep, healthy breakfast, what else?
Event warmup:

First multisport...lots of ogling, figuring things out, observing details, copying what others are doing, stretching, etc.
Run
  • 23m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

First multisport, took it easy...I think.
What would you do differently?:

Run a little harder
Transition 1
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Rode in running shoes, no toeclips, made for fast transition, slow ride. I'd been fighting sore metatarsal joints, so I wanted to minimize pressure on that part of the foot. I rode mostly on my heels. Extremely inefficient, but my training is geared toward the River Bank Run (15.5 mi) in a few weeks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 09m
  • 18.6 miles
  • 16.17 mile/hr
Comments:

First race on a bike. Didn't push too hard. I was on a mountain bike and it sucked to have EVERYONE fly by on their faster rides. I was proud to be the 2nd mountain bike guy in the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a rode bike. Ride harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Bike racks did not accomodate my tall mountain bike. It took several tries to rack it, splitting the cover of my seat in the process.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new bike and practice ahead of time.
Run
  • 25m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

First multisport. Now I know why Ironman people look so goofy when starting the run. This is hard! Picked up speed, finished well.
What would you do differently?:

Stretch a few seconds more.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of stretching and consuming fruit, Accelerade, etc. My leg muscles cramped a bit afterward.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience and my mountain bike.

Event comments:

First multisport. I felt cared for and taken care of at every turn. Locker room and showers were available. Good post race stats available. VERY well run. No complaints.

Nice job in your first multisport race. My first bike leg went exactly like yours, so don't feel bad. Next time you'll have ridiculous improvement now that you have a feel for how fast you could/should go.

Yeak, I got a road bike before my first triathlon a month later, and it made all the difference. It stinks when the limit is your equipment instead of your training and ability. I'm loving the new bike!
