Pre-race routine:

*As soon as the actual times are posted I will update although this is a close aproximation.

Woke up at 4:30 after a sleepless night. Not really because of the race, but the dogs were up a lot thus we were up a lot. Packed the car and left for the 45 minute drive to the swim club.
Event warmup:

Just trying to stay warm. Did a little stretching and walked around but that was about it.
Swim
  • 10m
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

I got passed by one person which was hard because there were always 2 people in the lane and this guy pretty much swam right over me.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more and not go out so fast at the start so I have more energy in the end.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

This transition was way too long. Maybe I should not have stopped to roast that chicken! Seriously,I had a hard time getting my socks on because I did not dry my feet enough and the timing chip kept getting in the way
What would you do differently?:

Dry my feet better and buy a pre-roasted chicken!

Comments:

Oh My God, just when you crested a hill and got a little break there was another hill staring at you. There were some awesome payoffs for the climbing. My max speed reached 38.2 but the hills were tough. I was hoping to be able to hydrate on the bike but if I was not hammering up a hill, I was holding on for dear life going down on. I had some shifting issues and threw the chain twice. Overall, I was very pleased with my ride. I was hoping for under an hour and had a whole 40 seconds to spare
What would you do differently?:

Get my derailluer checked. Pre-ride the course. I signed up for this late and we only had time to drive it. It's a lot different on the bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Since this was a neighborhood race, it did not have all of the luxuries of a big sponsored race. For example, the racks in the transition area were saw horses and pvc pipe. It was very hard to get my bike to not fall over. I tried to rack it on the handlebars but after a few tries I ended up having to turn it around and rack it by the seat. I guess the pipes moved between the race start and my transition.
What would you do differently?:

I could have just let my bike fall over, but that would have caused a domino effect with other bikes. I was pretty happy with this transition
Run
  • 36m 12s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Uphill to the halfway point and then a nice downhill back to the finish. I changed my mind from my last race report, I don't run like a grandmother, I run like a great-grandmother. I did pass the lady walking though which was a big ego booser for me!
What would you do differently?:

I just have to practice, practice, practice and stop whining so much about how much I hate to run
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, had a bananna and some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills and a slow run

Event comments:

For a neighborhood race I had a blast. The race was limited to 250 so it was a nice intimate event. There were a lot of kids volunteering at the water stations and counting laps in the pool. They were great, cheering for everyone. This is one I will do again next year.

Course: 16 laps in a 400 Meter pool. The first waves were people who guaranteed that they could do the swim in under 10 minutes (otherwise they would be DQ'd. After that, we went off in a zig-zag every 30 seconds. Up and back in one lane and then switching to the next lane and so on until you got to the end of pool. I have never done a pool swim for a race so it was interesting but very convenient way to get a lot of people through the swim.

Great job! I did this one today, too - my first ever tri. I did the bike course 4 times before the race, it definitely helped to be prepared for the hills. Loved your race report.
