Age Group Rank = 14/
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30 and had a banana and a yogurt. Went back to bed until 4:30 then cycled to the start line.
Run
  • 6h 09m 10s
  • 50 kms
  • 07m 23s  min/km
Comments:

My left foot started cramping brutally at 45 K making it almost impossible to run. Shin splint on right leg was very debilitating - when I kept to the grass the shin splint was fine but acted up whenever I hit the pavement which was the bulk of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Bring some gels
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish line, drank some ice cold water, grabbed a banana and a cookie then started icing my left foot and my right shin.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lots of pain. I should have bought new shoes two weeks ago will never try to exend them again.

Event comments:

This is really an ad hoc kind of event in keeping with the Fat Ass Style approach to running http://www.coolrunning.com.au/fatass/

OK, my response is the same as above...you just ran for 6 hours?  And in flat shoes?  Great job.  Way to hang tough!

Awesome race!  I've never broken the 26.2 barrier yet   You crazy ultra-people!

Way to stick with it through the shin splints!  I hear those hurt....
