Total Time = 1h 34m
Overall Rank = 319/934
Age Group = Clydes
Age Group Rank = 7/28
Pre-race routine:

Stayed in boulder the night before at a hotel.
Event warmup:

Showed up at about 6:30 got the bike set up and met triforresttri and some other people from the vail area. Since we were racked by wave I got to meet some other clydes that I often raace with.
Swim
  • 14m 44s
  • 750 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

OK, why did I start at the front? I have learned from previous open water swims that I need to start slow and then kick it at the end. Not sure what possesed me to start at the front but at the horn I got swam over, under, kicked ect. That threw the rest of my swim off and it took ahile to get into a rythym. After the first 200-300 yeards it got better.
What would you do differently?:

Start at the back or side.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Bike
  • 47m 26s
  • 17.2 miles
  • 21.76 mile/hr
Comments:

OK I love to bike. I know my running sucks (see below) so I need to hammer the bike to make up for it. Since we were the last wave it was fun passing people. It makes you feel much faster than you really are. Still there were people with an avg mph of 25+. For the love of god, how do you go that fast? Love it, love it, love it.
Transition 2
  • 00m 38s
Run
  • 29m 35s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

OK, if there is one thing I could change about myself it would be the ablity to run. Last year I could run an 8:30 pace but that included walking?! Now I can only muster a 9:30? What the *#@%. I am thinking that I should do what I did last year and spint/walk instead of a slow pace. Really I need to do more sprints in my running workouts. If I could get back to that 8:30 pace I would move up 2-3 postions in every race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more!
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with the family, swam with the kids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

RUNNING!

Event comments:

Loved the race and look forward to doing it again next year, still debating the oly race with the 15% grade climb next month at the same location.

7th place finish ain't bad man!!!

I never would have known you weren't happy w/ the swim. When you came through T1, you looked pretty strong.

7th place is AWESOME - congrats! Running is the worst for me too, so I feel your pain. COME ON - do the Boulder Peak (better sign up soon - it's almost full!). There will be a ton of BT'ers there.

Ditto - 7th is good.  1:34 is fast!

But if you're not thrilled with that, then DEFINATELY come back and redeem yourself at Boulder Peak   Whatever psychology works.  Look forward to meeting up with you next time!
