Overall Rank = 92/139
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 19/28
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:00
Coffee, yogurt, oatmeal
Water
Event warmup:

short bike ride
500 yard swim
Swim
  • 21m 14s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Last year's time: 25:45.5, improved (-3:45)

What would you do differently?:

To improve my performance I need to do two things
1) put in more workouts of longer length
2) improve technique
Transition 1
  • 04m 1s
Comments:

Last year's T1: 4:35, improved (-0:34)

This significance of this slight improvement is not immediately obvious. Last year I wore my swimsuit and tri shorts; this year I was stripping out of my wetsuit. I knew this transition was going to be long, I had a very hard time with the left leg, the suit got really hung up on the bulky timer.
What would you do differently?:

In order to improve T1, I need to:
1) Practice getting suit off quickly
Bike
  • 42m 29s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.95 mile/hr
Comments:

Last year's time 52:27, improved, (-9:58)

The bike was enjoyable. I only got passed by tri-bikes. I had a little trouble when that happened--I drooled over those awesome bikes, especially the Cervelos.
My computer malfunctioned and I only got my cadence readout, I would have liked to have had the speed readout, too.
Had a GU early in the ride & one more toward the very end of the ride.
What would you do differently?:

To improve my performance, I need:
Put in more miles
Transition 2
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

Last year 2:27, took 1:12 seconds long

I HAD to take a potty break, so I have to live with this long transition time.

I have not practiced jumping off moving bike since I switched to clipless, so I did not do it in the race.

What would you do differently?:

Master jumping off moving bike
Run
  • 13m 15s
  • 1.5 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

If I had known it was only 1.5 miles, I would have run harder.

What would you do differently?:

To improve performance, I need to

1)Do bricks
2)Speed workouts
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, had banana & water

Went back to hotel and soaked in the hot tub, swam a bit in the pool.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not putting in my time and miles

Event comments:

This is a great venue for a race. Nice grassy beach area for families and spectators. The bike and run are on closed roads. After the race, there was an assortment of fruit and bagels, Team Luna Chix handed out samples, and a local sponser provided Cliff Bars. We received waterbottles with the race logo on it at the finish.

It seemed that there were lots of experienced racers and only a handful of newbies, compared to last year.

Course: Course was to be 3 miles. Pre-race, they explained the 3 mile course. Due to error by course monitors, it ended up being 1.5 miles short. There was a point that we were to run out an additional .75 miles, turn around and run back the .75 miles, then turn onto a path into the park where the race finished. The monitors, turned everyone into the park on their way out. There was a water station at the turn around--I bet those volunteers were lonely!

great job cutting your time back. the extra time in t2 was probably worth it though, right? i added 2 mins of time to my 1/2 marathon this weekend taking a potty break...but i felt SOOO much better afterwards!

You did an awesome job.  Way to destroy your time from last year.  I hope you had a great time.  Congrats on a race well done!

Great race!  Nice to improve year over year.

Not that I have any exprerience at improving...this is my first year.  We'll see what happens next year.

Amy, you hit the nail on the head about why I was excited about this race...one year later and I am still at it!  Like you, I decided to do this for me and I am still here.  I have found a way to take care of and indulge myself that is good for me (and gives me more energy to take care of everyone else).
