I would like to bring this to everyone's attention. Please see the following links for the story of a cyclist who was seriously injured by a motorist who then fled the scene.

A fund is being put together to attempt to identify the motorist who fled the scene. If you wish to make a donation, please see

I just posted the link and a description of the car on another busy web-board's "North Carolina" section. I really hope they find this person.

A woman purposely ramming her car through a pack of cyclists in California killed a member of my high-school graduating class when we were all 20. Get this kind of evil off of the road.

The average driver here in NC has no clue about respecting cyclists. I get honked at, yelled at, and have cars and trucks come way too close to me everyday.

A 66-year-old Grand Junction woman was arrested while driving along the tour route Wednesday afternoon in a reported road-rage incident.
Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Tim Keeton arrested Betty Lorimer near Sapinero along U.S. 50.
Cyclists had called the State Patrol on their cellphones to report that the driver of a 1-ton Ford pickup had been driving dangerously, swerving near them and leaning on the horn for several miles.
"She was just being unreasonable," Keeton said.
Lorimer was so upset, Keeton said, that sending her on her way with only a ticket would have
further enraged her and increased the danger for cyclists.
Officials reportedly found a loaded handgun in the truck when it was impounded.
Keeton pointed out that it was not illegal for her to have a gun.

It's tragic, but not surprising, that a driver hit a cyclist and then drove off. Before I moved to a bike-friendly city, I got harassed by drivers in some way every single day I was on the bike. There are definitely lots of morons behind the wheel, and the justice system seems to never prosecute those drivers they do catch.

But ya know, there are plenty of morons on bikes too. If bicyclists are on the road and not following the rules of the road, I can see why drivers might not appreciate them. Not only is reckless cycling dangerous in the immediate sense, but it also makes the roads more dangerous for all cyclists in the long run because drivers don't know what to expect from us. If we're ever going to be taken seriously by drivers or by police as vehicles with a right to be on the road, we should act like vehicles and demonstrate responsible cycling. I would encourage everyone to brush up on how to bike in traffic (the right way!), as well as evasive maneuvres for when you do encounter an idiot. It takes effort from both drivers and cyclists to stop these unnecessary tragedies from occurring, so I think we should at least do our part.
