Run
Comments: great first run, felt a little winded after the first mile, then had to run the next one straight into a head wind, which was the deciding factor in the race. the wind was just brutal. What would you do differently?: great run, minus the wind Transition 1
Comments: tough to have fast transitions with mountain bike shoes Bike
Comments: i rode ok, considering i haven't ridden my mountain bike in....oh, about 8 months. got on feeling great after the 1st run, but slowly the wind sucked the energy right outta me. my legs just didn't have the power, due to lack of training, and i had to spin into the wind rather than power through it like the other racers. i got passed by 8 or so people in this section What would you do differently?: train for a bike race Transition 2
Run
Comments: 1st 0.5 miles hurt like crazy, but after that, my legs loosened up and i was able to get some decent rythym. i had a bitch of a time dropping people tho, i would pull up next to them, slowly pick up the pace, but i could hear them drafting off me. and yes, that was possible due to the insane wind speed. with about a mile to go there is a short hill, somehwat outta the wind, thankfully, and this was where i was able to final cut the cord with hte drafters. i finished the run strong, and looking for more miles, if i had a 10k at the end i feel i could have moved up considerably. What would you do differently?: not a thing Post race
Warm down: never really got that hot. the winds made sure of that What limited your ability to perform faster: bike training, winds (did i mention this yet?) Event comments: great local race, with wine glasses for all age group winners, 2nds and 3rds. good to see some people coming over from the western side of the state to race in the desert of washington! too bad the conditions were so bad, ppl didn't really hang around too much.
