Comments:

I wasn't expecting too much from this race. It was primarily for fun and a 5k time check. I did a 20 mile run 2 days prior and also did 8k ft. of climbing on the bike the day prior along with a 5 mile brick run. I felt a little fatigued going into it.

This was also the 25th anniversary of the race, so they had an 80's costume contest. I happened to have put together a Devo costume for an 80's party a few weeks prior, so thought it might also be fun to run in it.

Things got off to a good start. There was a little headwind going south along the coast. Not much of an issue with having to avoid people.

My pacing stayed pretty well level throughout the race, maybe slightly faster than average the first mile.

The crowds and fellow runners seemed to enjoy the Devo outfit, although with the intensity of the run, I mostly acknowledged with grunts and thumbs up.

The final turn and last 300 meters to the finish is a very slight downhill that gives you a nice view of the finishing chute. There were a lot of spectators lined up there so I pumped my arms up in the air to get them hollering. Although 5k's seem so short compared to other races, it was a lot of fun running those last 100 meters.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe drink a little more water or gaterade prior.
Post race
Warm down:

I loaded up on drinks, bananas, and a muffin. Did a cool down walk up and down the final stretch.

I then headed over the beer garden a cashed in my drink tickets and chatted with strangers about the genius of Devo.

Adjacent to the beer garden, there was a live 80's cover band playing who had spotted my bright red energy dome earlier. They summoned me up onto the stage. One of the band members asked me if I really knew the band behind my costume. I shrugged half heartedly not admitting that I've logged probably 5 hrs. of "Whip It" mimicry watching Youtube over the past few weeks. They started playing it and I got to perform in front of the crowd. At first they handed me an blow up guitar to play along with, but once they saw I knew the words, they handed me a mic and it was on... pretty cool!
