Swim
Comments: Jumped in off the boat and waited for the start. The current was moving in towards the finish and to the right which is the direction I tend to drift in my swimming. Had a difficult time sighting but felt good overall. I wore my Garmin 310 in my swim cap and new i was not swimming straight when it beeped for a mile lap and I was still a couple hundred yards out from the finish. I ended up swiming 1.2 miles according to the garmin so if I can site better in Galveston and not fight the current I should have a decent swim time What would you do differently?: SWIM STRAIGHT!!!!!!! Transition 1
Comments: Had my wetsuit ready for the strippers and that went fast. First race with the new aero helmet, and I had to take it off and adjust it once. Bike
Comments: This is where things went south. As soon as I turned out of transistion onto 146 I got a flat. Pulled over and changed it out. Water came out of my aero bottle when I laid my bike down, so all I had was my nutrition for the bike ride. Got the tire back on and headed up the bridge and noticed something wasn't right. Got to the top and stopped and the rear tire was aligned right, so I fixed it and headed on my way again. By this point there was no reason to ride really hard and see how things went, so I treated it as another practice ride for the 70.3 in Galvestion in two weeks and rode in high zone 2/low zone 3 for the rest of the ride. The garmin showed that I averaged a little over 19 for when I was moving. If I can hold 19 mph for galveston at high zone 2 that would be great. What would you do differently?: Not get a flat and get the tire back on right the first time. Transition 2
Comments: Took my time here and actually put on socks. Didn't want to chance any blisters or spots two weeks out from the half. Run
Comments: First mile and 1/2 went really well. At that point I took a gel and somehow ended up with a stitch in my side. It took about 2-3 miles of running really slow and walking to get rid of it and then I finished up. I haven't had a stitch in over a year, so hopefully I don't run into this at Galveston. Legs and endurance felt great. Saw David (we have been training together) on his 2nd loop and he was going strong and he placed 2nd in under 40 clydes. So that makes me feel better that if I hadn't had all the bad mojo today things could have been good. What would you do differently?: Figure out why I got the stitch. Post race
Warm down: Food and drinks and hung around for David to get is 2nd place award and headed home. Stopped by Freebirds for lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Backed off after flat to treat it as a training ride Last updated: 2009-12-09 12:00 AM

Went to pick up packet on Saturday and drove down to the Bayhouse in Galveston to spend the night. Headed to Kemah around 4:45.
Warmup? Not in the race unless you count sitting on a boat for 20-30 minutes shooting the breeze.
