Total Time = 1h 39m 52s
Overall Rank = 45/1122
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/95
Pre-race routine:

Not much for one, except maybe wishing I could be in bed. Didn't really feel thrilled about this race, although its my favorite one. Being sick all week and in bed for couple of days I just thought of finishing quick. I WAS super excited that I was in the 3rd wave after pros and celebrities. Hate starting late.

had a coffee tried to eat a banana.
Event warmup:

stretched and swam maybe 100 yrds. waves were massive, good day for surfing not for swimming.
Swim
  • 14m 33s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Chop was rediculous, feel bad for the folks that were doing this for the first time. swam good overall came in 3rd in AG very happy with this result.

Decided on the wetsuit which was smart decision.
What would you do differently?:

need to stay behind the fast folks, it was hard to see with the chop.
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Good T1 granted I had wetsuit on and didn't practice.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on T1 with wetsuit a little. had 3rd fastest transition in AG with wetsuit, i'll take it.
Bike
  • 52m 52s
  • 19 miles
  • 21.56 mile/hr
Comments:

started easy and smooth and then just kept up the cadence. I didn't see a single AGer so i thought i was pretty behind, then after mile 10 first 2 age groupers caught up to me. tried to keep pace but they were little fast and being sick I didn't want to push it harder.
What would you do differently?:

not get sick and have time to train...next time i would like to actually push it a little more.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

this transition went well, without practicing at all still managed to get 5th fastest transition in AG.
What would you do differently?:

need to make an effort to practice these a tad. when your heart rate is pumping from the bike its difficult to concentrate it needs to be second nature. I think i actually sat on the ground to put shoes on...wow...
Run
  • 28m 54s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

race went well granted all the issues, being sick, not running for 2 months prior to the race. to be honest pulling a 7:15 pace out of my ....ehm bottom is frankly pretty good.

i think i could have pushed it more at the 2 mile turnaround i felt so good knowing its almost over. the 3rd place was only 7 seconds ahead of me.
What would you do differently?:

need to run more.
Post race
Warm down:

massage sponsored by Men's Health.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being sick the entire week before, felt drained after the race, but was happy with the result.

Event comments:

One of the better race, its on south beach, great atmosphere lots of people after the race.
