I was wondering what is the best thing to wear for an XTERRA tri that is in July? I just completed a sprint tri so I have nice tri shorts but is there a better recommendation for off-road tri's?

Same stuff, just loose the aero helmet and add a camelback.

keep an extra pair of socks ready at T2, just in case... (assuming you wear socks.)

+1 to what Nelg and NorCal SAHD said.  Camelbak is the way to go on the bike and extra socks are nice.  The bike segment can get wet and muddy.  My feet blister if I go sockless...
