What is a fair price for this bike? Do you think it will suffice for an iron distance tri? Would this be a good fit for someone around 5'11". I know it is impossible to answer the questions with 100% accuracy. I am just looking for some input. Thanks

I wish all of the components and wheels were on a bike with a better frame, i.e., carbon fibre (personal preference).
Bike size seems reasonable based on your height.
$ seems good in my opinion.

Lots of upgrades, but I'd be hesitant to spend $1000 on a 13-year old bike. For that kind of money, you could easily get something of similar/better quality less than 5 years old.

to much for that bike. i sold an 08 trek madone all carbon not to long ago and only got 1200 out of it, i would hold off for a better deal on a newer bike. not a big fan of those wheels either. good luck either way

I agree they're asking more than it's worth. 8-speed system... Not that it's bad (I'm still running 8-speed on ALL my road bikes), and it looks clean for sure, but it's hard to tell just how worn it is, and getting 8-speed cassettes isn't all that easy (they're out there, just not at every shop/online retailer).

yes, too old for $1000, also when I was researching wheels, I read some scary things about Spinenergy carbon wheels.

keep looking.

Not in your immediate area, but I saw this today on Philly Craigslist. IMO the QR is the better deal if you're looking for a tri bike (it's not mine, I just saw it).

x2 I didn't really look in detail at the specs and price, but those 4-spoike Spinergy wheels don't have a great history....

I believe the ones on this bike (with the yellow graphics) are the "beefier" model built for heavier riders. Should be okay, but not all that hot for aerodynamics (counter to appearances).

Mishmash of parts on a not so great frame. $400-500 would be an OK price but $1K is way too expensive. You could by a much better bike with full DA kit of the same vintage for around $800-900. You could also probably find a good 3-4 year old used tri bike with Ultegra or 105 for the same price.

I have a 2002 C'dale R500 and it's a great entry level bike.  That one looks like it was well maintained, lots of upgrades.  But perhaps it was over-upgraded for its base frame.  For a real estate comparison, it's kinda like putting granite countertops in a doublewide.

I don't know anything about the wheels, but I'd say that bike should sell for maybe $500.

Gotta tell ya.....If you can, take your time and you'll find a nice bike at a good price on Craigslist (Atleast in Denver you can).   I just bought my new roadie 2 weeks ago and got a steal.    Do your homework and know what you are looking at and you should get something nice.

On the flip side, alot of people ask ridiculous prices for their stuff and you can get ripped off.   When i bought my bike, i would laugh at asking prices for different bikes and actually told alot of people they'll never sell what they were asking for for.   I still check and see alot of those bikes for sale, even reduced at what i asked about.

Also... part of the problem with Craigslist (IMO) is that there are so many buyers who try to lowball sellers, they are almost forced to over-price items and let buyers lowball them to the price they actually want. Example... I sold a surfboard on Craigslist a couple years ago and knew I wanted $300 for it, I priced it at $450 or $500, I forget, and right away got lowball offers in the $300 range (and the guy I sold it to even tried to knock the price down to $200 when I met him to complete the transaction!).

At least on Ebay (reserves etc aside), prices reflect an actual market value because buyers bid up to what the market will bear.

yeah people tend to overprice things a little on craigslist because they know that people will try to bargain with them.  Just make sure the bike fits, if it feels good try to bring the price down.  Good luck! cymru am byth!

In my experience, many people (that aren't into bikes) price their 10 year+/- bikes based on what the retail of the bike was new. I doubt most ever sell their overpriced stuff.

I agree that the $300 figure on that bike would be a good deal. $400 might be resonable, but not a steal.

Great way to see what a possible bike should sell for is do ebay search of sold bikes.
