Total Time = 1h 35m 6s
Overall Rank = 158/164
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 14/14
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 420 AM. ate a banana & cheese bagel & raisen box
Arrived at race about 1 hr 15 minutes early. I got to pick the spot on the rack. Got marked, picked up chip and walked around looking at all the people
Event warmup:

I did a little stretching
Swim
  • 14m 11s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

In water start and I was glad I had a wetsuit as the water felt cold. I was good for the first 100 meters then I had a hard time keeping my breathing rhythm of every other stroke so I start breathing every right stroke. I got run over once but not a big deal. Sighting was good for the most part. Considering where I was last year I am please. The swim time include run out up a hill and wetsuit stripping.
What would you do differently?:

I need more swim practice in the wetsuit. I think the wetsuit was restricting my breathing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

I had a hard time getting my socks on and kept falling over. I had to run to the far end of T-1 to change but had a short run out. I beat my goal time but I can do better.
What would you do differently?:

I need to start racing with out socks so I need to practice this or learn to get socks on faster. I was still having balance issues from the knee surgery.
Bike
  • 40m 57s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike ride was good. I did a lot down in the aero-positon and on the drops.

When my HR spiked in the headwind I just cut my pace and dealt with it.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to ride more to get my bike legs back to where they were last year.

Make sure I reset my bike computer once I get bike set-up in transiton.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Quick change and out. Shoe change good. Picked up race belt and hat took off. I had to run to the far end to the transition to get out.
What would you do differently?:

Pretty pleased. I guess run faster.
Run
  • 35m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

The run course had to be short as I have never run a 5K that fast. I will take the time and enjoy. I had to run and walk a lot as my HR kept jumping up.
What would you do differently?:

I knew this was the weak point of my race and it kind of went the way I thought it would. I just need to keep working at my running to build my endurance and get my knee used to running again. No real swelling on the right knee.
Post race
Warm down:

None. I got my finisher medal, went to transition loaded up my gear and walk to truck.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight is hurting me & my knee surgery. I will get better as the sumer goes along.

Event comments:

Good race. first class group running it and having the 1/2 Ironmen race really made it exciting.

Hello

This was a good race and I would everyone to come down to Charleston (Mt Pleasant) for the race next year.

I am thinking about the 1/2 Iron for next year.  It is nice having the race in your home town.

Michael

Thanks.

I think my town (Mt P) showed itself well hosting the race.   I ride 1/2 Iron run couses everytime I go out on the bike.

Get well.
