Overall Rank = 15/94F
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/8
Event warmup:

got in the water and swam to the first buoy and back - chilly - about 68 degrees (a little cooler and choppier than last year)
Swim
  • 15m 24s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Much choppier than last year - one of the "3-mile" swimmers called it "treacherous." Horrible that they started all the women in one wave - all 94 of us! Way too many people. Waves ahead of us were pushed off course due to the current, and we found ourselves swimming into people as they were making their way back (they had crossed over the buoys and were head-on into us!) Amazingly, I just kept going - recovering from laryngitis, kept it nice and slow and had a decent time out of the water.

Comments:

Very slow...hard to get wetsuit off.
Bike
  • 45m 2s
  • 15.1 miles
  • 20.12 mile/hr
Comments:

First race I've average over 20mph! Very happy, considering I did a 100 mile century ride the day before.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe rest the day before?
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Run
  • 23m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

What was up with the rusty water? Uuuughhh...at the turnaround, the water in the cup was brown, which should have told me something. They must have gotten it from a rusty spicket.

Event comments:

Really love this little race - 2nd year, and it has gotten bigger. I don't think the volunteers expected as many last minute sign ups (I know I was one). As a result, the waves were probably bigger than intended - 94 women in at once was way too much. Some of the water stations were a little crowded, and the water was either warm or rusty!!!

Way better "bling" this year. Instead of tinny medal for age groupers (last year), really nice plaque this time. Everyone also got a nice "finisher's" medal, which doubled as a bottle opener. And the T-shirts were WAY better! Beautifully designed "sports" T (whatever that material is) instead of last year's cotton, which shrunk and I can't wear it.

Nice addition of having a coffee vendor present since there wasn't a place to stop and eat within 12 miles of the race site.

Overall, still one of my favorite races - as it grows, I'm sure the organizers will adjust in the future.
