From the website this morning...

The temperature of Loon Pond on Sunday, August 22nd was 80 degrees F. We are hopeful that the rain and cooler temperatures forecasted for the early part of the week of August 22nd will help lower the water temperature to 78 degrees so that the Cranberry Trifest sprint and olympic are wetsuit legal races, but, as always, the official water temperature won't be known until race morning. Bring your wet suit! You can always leave it in the car...

I think the last time I wore my wetsuit was sometime in early July, so I'm actually hoping the rain DOESN'T cool off the lake enough!!!!! I always feel horribly overheated during the Cranberry swim - I'd love it if it wasn't wetsuit legal. Looking forward to racing on Sunday!

NeedhamTri - 2010-08-22 3:19 PM Rode the new course yesterday also - it seems very fast, and one of those rides which feels like it has more downhill than uphill, which is always good.

My first time doing Cranberry.   My family will be coming down to watch, but will arrive later than me, probably after the swim waves have started.    Can anybody comment on the parking situation - will they still be able to park at Ted Williams or does it fill up?   Also, if they plan to come see me half-way round the ride, is it easy to get out and then back in to Ted Williams (or not worth trying)?

Ok, I am not positive about this, but here I go. Most races fill up the lots rather early. Plus one of the entrances for cars is also the entrance for the racers. This being said, if your family is going to show up after the race starts, they will probably have to park off site  and walk in. If I remember, there are a few businesses across the street within a mile of the camp, more likely 1/2 mile, so parking outside and walking in would offer the best chance to remain mobile during the race. Hope this helps.

The wife and I are out for Cranberry. I knew we were being optimistic following our first 70.3 (Timberman) by just a week for an Olympic. I now know I could do an Olympic, but I couldn't do an Olympic this sunday. Its going to take a few days just to walk normally LOL.

We will be there cheering on our Wheelworks teammates as they go for the club championship. I hope to meet a bunch of you down there as we missed the dinner with everyone Friday night at Timberman.

There are two entrances to the race site - the one from Bedford St will be open during racing. There were several businesses out on Bedford St, so your relatives may be able to park out there and walk in. I was there to ride the course on Saturday and there are a few parking areas, but I'm imagining that the parking lots will get quite full and there probably won't be any parking after the race starts.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.   Based on the e-mail from the organizers today, they seem pretty confident about the parking situation even after the race starts, but these are useful suggestions if it doesn't work out for any reason.

Have a great race, everybody.

You could always come down to volunteer on Sunday.  We just got an email saying they are still looking for people to help out.  You get a cool tech shirt.  The volunteer coordinator is Carol Harris.  Her email is [email protected] if you are interested.

Any update on water temps? I'd think that with the rain and cooler temps over the past week the water would have cooled down a bit.

Thought about it, but family obligations are putting the brakes on doing it.

Swam the course today at about 2pm.  They said the temp was 76, but it actually felt cooler than that.  There were pockets of water that were definitely chilly.  I think folks will be fine with I wetsuit.  I am still not wearing one, but it should absolutely be wetsuit legal.

That should help. Even though it's supposed to reach the 90's tomorrow it's going to be nice and cool to start in the morning. It looks like it may be around 80 degrees by 11 AM.

Good job out there everyone! Even though it got a bit hot during the day, most of the course was pretty shaded - that seemed to help out a lot.

I somehow managed to get 2nd in my age group, which I definitely wasn't expecting, but I guess it all depends on who shows up for each race.

I'm now really looking forward to improving on my performance here next year.

Funny the the absolute WORST organized race I have ever been to was under the Ironman banner.... (Mooseman Oly 2010). Maybe Ironman should hire these people to show them how to run a race.

Usually the Moose is truly FANTASTIC. Have you done it in the past? This was the first year they've been under the IM brand, however, so maybe there has been a big change. Also, this year had some serious weather issues, no? Anyway, hopefully it was just a fluke because the Moose is typically a GREAT race and Keith does an incredible job with it.

I agree.  Did Mooseman oly twice and volunteered/spectated the HIMs.
Keith Jordan is another RD who has respectable reputation.
It's only in 2010 when the race is "bought out" by USAT and immediately ruined it.

sadly BT can not compete for team points. A team needs to be USAT certified team, which BT is not. Even if it was a "home" would need to be established, which would most likely be where Ron lives, so again, not looking good. However, I could ask the RD to group BTers like they do the regular teams and not rank them for points. I just need to remember to ask.
