Subject: Where to buy odd-shaped clothes.
Now that I have lost some weight, I was reminded that am not normally-proportioned.
.
Here is my dilemma.
I am kind of small for "Big & Tall" (6'3" 220-225lbs) and too big for most regular size clothes.
I also have a really long torso for my height.

Regular Shirts - I am somewhere between an XXL or an XL-Tall depending on the cut.

Dress Shirts - My neck is somewhere between 17 1/2 and 18", but I have a long torso. In addition, most shirts with an 18" neck are made to get really wide in the belly. I usually have to tuck-in 4-5 inches of extra material.

Pants - I am technically a 36 x 33, so I buy 36x34. However, I need roomy legs. For jeans, relaxed fit or wide leg. For dress pants, I need pleated a loose-fitting. Straight-leg Calvin Klein or Perry Ellis look shrink-wrapped around the legs and butt for the correct waste-size.

In a perfect world, I would wait for things to hit the clearance rack at TJMaxx, Ross, or Marshalls.

However, very few things that they sell fit me.

I am not really able to pull off the 38" and 40" pants anymore.

Any ideas for affordable places to get clothes?

Good luck finding something like that.  When I was at 235 I was in 34 x 33 pants and it was difficult to find anything.  I have to wear xl shirts, because xl-talls are next to impossible to find anymore.

I have the same issue with the legs. My legs are just bigger than the waist of the pants that I fit in. I usually just deal with it in jeans and go up a size in dress pants even though it sucks.

I had a suit custom made a few years back, even though it was spendy, it was definitely the way to go. Now if I just could have all my clothes made that way...

Well I am shorter, but understand the dilemma. I have never had a neck (I mean I was 5'7 and 150 lbs in 10th grade and I was wearing a 17 in. neck on my shirts). I buy shirts with an 18 1/2 in neck now, and they are flowing like a tent around me. I am now 5'9 and 229 and it is a pain. I wear a 40 x30 or 38 x 30 pant, but a 18 1/2 34-35 shirt

My husband hates tight necks and insists on buying 17.5 shirts, but they swim around the middle.  I just put them on the sewing machine and take them in a bit.  If you don't know anyone handy with a sewing machine, you can have it done at most dry cleaners for pretty cheap.  You'd be surprised at how much better you look when your shirts are fitted.

As for the pants; I find the Haggar pants that Kohl's sells to be a good fir for my hubby.  Between their sales and the coupons I never spend a lot.  Haggar's also have those cool hidden expandable waists so they are always comfortable and no matter how many times I wash them they still look good.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Thanks.

I have had some luck with the Van Heusen "Athletic Cut" shirts, but I need to watch that they stay tucked in...

I should probably price buying a cheap 18" shirt at Ross, and then see how much it would cost to have someone take the belly in a bit.

I have seen some that look like Triangles (in the wrong way).

I have not been in Men's Wearhouse in a while.

My husband is the same height and weight, although he has longer legs.    His gorilla arms, as he says, require him to wear XLT in tops of the best fit.

Some places we shop for him:

JCPenney (Tall section)

Eddie Bauer

Lands End:  You can get custom hemmed pants for no additional charge!

Defeinitely recommend having dress shirts tailored.  It doesn't need to be dramatically fitted, just taken in a little on the side so it doesn't balloon around you.

In generally, it sounds you really do need the "big and tall" stuff, but also tailored.  Most individual tailoring jobs aren't too expensive, like $10.  And if you buy something nice quality it's worth the investment.  I realllllly recommend checking out Lands End online.
