Pre-race routine:

Drove to start, got my bike out, pumped up tires, set up aero bottle with gatorade, registered.
Event warmup:

Rode up and down a little. Managed to lose my cadence magnet.

Comments:

I guess I beat 2 people, but one of them was a guy on a recumbent who flatted. So 1 guy. There was one other woman, she beat me by 2:13. The winner beat me by 10 minutes. In my defense, they all outspent me by at least 2 grand. I haven't seen such a pack of trick bikes since I watched the Tour time trials last year. Man.
What would you do differently?:

Other than cough up for a super flash TT bike? I did let my mind wander at one point and slowed down, but mostly I was working really hard. I'm happy about the time - it's a PB for me, even if it's not much in the context!
Post race
Warm down:

Pedaled around a little, stretched a teeny bit, drank water, ate some kind of bar, drove home. Felt weird not to have to run after the ride.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was pretty clearly outclassed in equipment. Certainly I could improve my engine, and that's the place to start, but I'm in good shape and gave it my all. The woman who beat me was quite a bit heavier. I'm thinking I might be able to take her on the hilly TT next week.

Event comments:

This was just a little local TT, only 18 participants, not a big formal race. I was doing it because racing a TT is one of my goals, and now I can cross it off! I think I'll be back - it was a lot of fun. Still have no idea how I managed not to come in DFL, but I really want to beat that woman with the fancy Litespeed and the aero wheels on my "vintage" QR. Maybe when I do I'll buy the fancy bike. ;)

Great job on the PR, Carrie! And what a great goal: "beat that girl and I get a new bike." How's that for motivation?

Great job in the time trial! You went out there to do your best and got a PR! Congrats!

I'm hemming an hawing about doing a 40KM one here in Texas (Pattison), "just to see" how I fare... I admit - it's a little intimidating with some of the money spent out there.

I'm impresed! There's no grass growing under your feet. Only days after your first Oly and you line up your first TT. Way to go! I think you did a great job. I think the "heavy woman" is looking over her shoulder.
