NRG42 - 2011-08-01 2:47 PM People look like they are having a really good time!!!  I always wonder if I just happen to swim over there if they would invite me on???   I need more friends with boats!!!!

I should be down there Thurs evening if anyone wants to join me?

Cheri - if you dress like a pirate I will too and then we can take over one of the boats

Just a heads up, i just got out of the lake.  Its still warm, i think park district said its about 75.  Lots of boats so theres lots of wake.  It got kind of rough at the second red bouy.   Besides for that it was a freakin awesome day to swim.  I like the pirate costume as well, that would be freakin hilarious.

Friendly swim report from this morning:

The winds were pushing small waves/chop back towards the beach which made the swim out a little tough. Water temp definitely cooled off. There were weird pockets of extra cold water and some pockets of warm water. A very weird thing to swim through 2 of those back to back. Waves/chop were consistent enough that I was able to time my stroke pretty well to ride a bit on my glide.

I also talked to an older man who was super nice and was getting ready to race int eh 70.3 worlds in Nevada in September. And he was old! Really inspiring. I love how people in this sport are really social and supportive!

more likely I'm going Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon. My wife was kinda mad I went without her Saturday! She wanted to go back in the afternoon, but after 1.5 mile swim and 12 mile run, I was beat!!!

Cool. I have to knock this out early to get some other things done.  We might head out slow to help Erwin out.

I'll be there if weather is nice Saturday morning 6am'ish    Water shows about 68deg today.

Hey everyone. After a perfect morning for a swim I was excited because I finally had a watch to check my pace. But I realized that while there is a 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile buoy, I don't know where the official "start" point for those measurements is. I assume it's not the shore because that seems much further to the 1/4 mile buoy than from 1/4 to 1/2 mile. Any insight on this? Thanks!

There is a large blue sign on one of light posts that marks .5 miles from the second red buoy.  This is slightly before the start of the string of floating buoy's that most people start at.

I've measured it using my Garmin on the path multiple times.

Swim report from this morning:

Cooler air temperatures did not cool down the water. The lake was not so much choppy as it was rolling. Slow rolling waves coming in by the break wall by the 1/2 mile buoy. Made the swim tougher, but had a few well timed strokes after sighting to catch a bit of air off the top of them, so that was fun!

There was also a reporter and photographer from the Tribune out there interviewing people about Tri swims after the deaths in New York. Everyone I head giving comments was pretty good talking about being prepared with proper training, remaining calm, focusing on form, etc.

Is there still a lot of crap in the water closer to shore?  Last Friday night was disgusting.

The chop stirred up some of the dirt from the bottom, so not perfectly clear, but other than that actually one of the cleaner swims I've had out there. No natural junk (last week I got home and had to dig some plant life out of my goggle), and no trash to speak of.

I'm supposed to race Sunday. Unfortunately, I'm sick! So I'm a no. But I'm sure Nexus and some of the other regulars we know from our motorcycle message board will be there.

I'm going after work.  Probably get there at around 5.  Only doing a short 1/2 mile since I'm racing in Michigan City tomorrow morning.

That is if the weather holds out.

Planning on it, but probably more like a late morning for me. It will be weird not staring straight into the rising sun when breathing!

We need "Beginner Tri" swim caps so we can see who's who :P

I mentioned in an earlier post that there was a reporter out last week. Article is now up (linked below). I guess I didn't say anything exciting enough to get included in the article.
