Comments: First marathon for my wife and I. Great setting with friends and family up in Burlington with us. Shelbie was going for a BQ and came so close missing by only 50 seconds. But, it was a great run for her and she finished strong despite having a rough injury prone last 6 or so weeks of training that made her miss some key runs. I ran with her for the first 10 or so and then Ken joined us and we ran til mile 20 or so before Tyra also joined us. We stayed pretty close together the whole way until I hit the wall hard on mile 25. My quads wanted to seize up and I tried to power through the best I could. I also hurt my left foot and felt like something snapped. Can hardly walk on it now but sort of hobbled the last two miles with Tyra's encouragement which was a big help. Race is great. Nice course. Some rolling terrain with a couple of hills but nothing crazy. Nice "easy" last few miles. Temperature was mile in the 60s for the start and basically perfect (although I'd prefer high 40s for a race like this). It really was a great time. It seemed to go by pretty quick while I was running. Shelbie and I went out conservative based off some of our 20 mile training runs that were under 8min/mile pace it seemed easy. As the race unfolded I started feeling premature fatigue like my legs weren't really rested from Ragnar last weekend or like I eased up on running a couple of weeks too soon. I feel like I may have peaked back in March and changed focus to triathlon a little too soon. I think I missed on nutrition, I took a Gu at mile 5, 10 and 15 but skipped the one I was going to take on 20 and that may have cost me but who knows. All in all, good race, good time, good first marathon. What would you do differently?: Train specifically for a marathon and run closer to 60 mpw without biking at all. Drop 10 pounds. Better nutrition plan. Pick a fall marathon instead of a spring marathon. I'm marking it "below average" for me because I feel like I have something much closer to 3:30 in my legs. Post race
Warm down: Ate some food. Limped around on my pathetic left foot. Last updated: 2010-01-01 12:00 AM

Went to SBUX across from hotel and had a venti drip. Ate half a cliff bar on the ride over. Drank a bottle of water.
Stretched for 30 seconds or so.
