I'm volunteering at the race this year to put a little bit back into the sport.

I'll be body marking and working in TA.

Look for me in the big hat; I'll be writing the BIG numbers.

Good luck to all the athletes!

You'll be the first person I've ever seen race in a speedo with a speed suit!

evondo - 2010-08-04 8:45 PM Picked up packets tonight and I have to say Aaron did a great job. Good shirt, headsweats hat, bib w/name on it and Betsy was very happy with the women size shirts.Good luck to all, should be a great race!

Awesome!  Now I am excited to get my packet!

My favorite bit of swag was the clear vinyl pouch from the dentist containing the toothbrush, lip balm and pen. Clean teeth, moist lips and the ability to take notes equal faster race times, doncha know.

Yep totally digging my orange pen.  I feel faster already.  Nice swag.  Love my shirt, hope it doesn't shrink or else I'll have to give it to my 8 year old.

Is anyone going to ride with rear disc tomorrow? I am still up in the air about it.  I have rode the course a couple times and the wind has been coming in at an angle.  Not sure if it would benefit any.  Good luck everyone.  It's going to be fun!

More reason to ride a disk. Put it on! I never don't ride my disc.

As he said, that's all the more reason to rock the disc.  The only possible reasons in which I wouldn't race a disc is if the race doesn't allow it (Kona or Cozumel for example), the wind is off the charts (40+ mph) or it's super hilly in which the extra weight might be an issue (doubtful).  Otherwise, the disc is always the best alternative.

Winds during race time tomorrow are predicted to be between 2-4 mph.  Yes, Fry Road always seems more windy than it should because it's so wide open but it sounds better than last year when winds were 10 mph or so.

The race was very well run again.  I hope everyone had a great time.

I finished 15th in the M40-44 group at 1:17-something.  I was probably top-8 or so coming off the bike but running is not my strong suit so I fell back a few spots.

Swim: I think my swim was around 9:50.  Could've gone faster but I just wasn't feeling it until the turn and picked it up a bit.  I was amazed at how many guys from the M35-39 group that I ran into (literally and figuratively).  I know a first time OWS freaks people out but people were woefully unprepared for that swim.  That lake water is disgusting as well.  I don't remember it being that bad last year.

T1: Average.

Bike: The bike course was pretty fast.  The last couple of miles were slower because the road was terrible.  I was close to 24 mph average for the bike.  I thought it would get crowded with 1100 people on a 14 mile course but it wasn't that bad.  The police did a great job at every intersection.

T2: Slow because I went to the wrong rack and then dropped my race belt while leaving T2 (wait until you hear the click next time, dummy).

Run: My run was respectable at 28:40 (8:07 pace) but all those darn 7 minute milers catch me every time. I just don't like running fast.  I can't get past that pain barrier that the top-10 guys can push past.

I should get a long bike in today because I have the Syracuse 70.3 and IMFL coming up but I think I might just vegetate today.  Last day of freedom before my wife and son come back from visiting the in-laws in N. Carolina.

I thought the race was very well run as well.  I am looking forward to the race next year and I plan on registering before someone post that it is about the sell out.

My wife was a trooper today.  She is due anyday now and still managed to go to the race with minimal yelling and glaring at me this morning (disclamer:  I thought it would be better for her to stay home, but she just had to go).

I finished with a 1:12:20 just :20 out of 3rd which is much better than I expected.  I do not ride on real flat roads so I did not know I had an extra gear.  I just hope I did not leave :20 on the course

This is what I *think* happened - There was supposed to be a 10 minute lag between the last wave of men and first wave of women but I think they put the first wave of women out at 5 minutes rather than 10 so the timing is off based on the information they gave to the timing guy.  I think if you add 5 minues you will get the real times.

Some of those swim times can not be correct. The world record for the 400 meter freestyle is 3:59.15 for women and 3:40.07 for men.

KeriKadi your logic makes sense.

Yeah, there HAD to be an error there! No way I swam 1:25/100meters! Adding 5 min would make sense.
