Subject: Blowing Up a Balloon
So, I went to a kids party and helped out with blowing balloons.  They were the little ones.  I attempted to blow one and for the life of me could not do it.  I thought maybe the balloon was defective and tried another one.  Can't do it.  I was out of breath.  My nephew was there, 12 yrs old, and no problem he was blowing it up like nothing.  My wife no problems.  Does training cause this or is this something I have to worry about?  I don't have problems breathing when I do SBR, but blowing up balloons? I though it was strange.

That's it. The beginning of the end.......

As mentioned, small balloons are a bit hard to inflate. Long balloons, such as those used for balloon twisting, are even harder. I do balloon twisting, and at first had to use a pump, but now I can do the balloons by mouth if necessary.

Next time stretch the balloon 2-3 times. It makes it easier. Also, the beginning is hard, after that it get's easier.

Or buy a balloon pump.

Wait ... seriously?

I don't have problems inflating balloons.  On the other hand I have to know ... is there any actual merit to this product, or is it yet another clever way to separate people from their money?

This kinda relates to an odd issue I sometimes have....  I can SBR my A$$ off, but sometimes a short flight of stairs, doesn't wind me per say, but catches me off guard.   Odd.

Next time wear your compression top and drink your snake oil. It's a common newb mistake.

Or, you can just stretch those little jokers out by hand first.

You know the irony here is that snake oil actually does have medicinal properties.  It's basically an omega-3 source, albeit not as high quality as fish oil.

Yeah, me too. I was even going to start a thread on the subject.

Why can I run for an hour no problem but still get so out of breath I can hardly talk if I run 20 yards to pick up a ringing phone.

That's funny, I get gassed walking to my office on the 3rd floor. I need about 15 minutes of warm-up I guess.

I'll skip the snake oil and keep taking my little fishy pills.

You'd think, with the nickname "Froggy".  But next stop on the Irony Express here is that I can't frog kick to save my life (probably literally); it feels incredibly awkward at best.  I'm not the world's greatest at front crawl either but at least I can get there.  I can't imagine trying to swim breaststroke in a tri.  I'd sink!

And yes, my nickname really is Froggy.

I remember as a child in the 70s watching some TV show where Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno had a contest to see who could blow up a hot water bottle first to the point of it exploding.

Arnold won.

You wouldn't.

Tongue out
