Master  2701    Salisbury, North Carolina |  Subject: Top of brake pads rubbing tireI've got Cane Creek scr-3's with the stock Bontrager Select wheel on my Trek 1500. Just recently I've noticed that the top of brake pad is getting really close to, if not touching the tire. As far as I can tell, the wheel is mounted correctly. What's funny is the brake pads are as low as they can go , adjustment-wise. I guess the brakes need to be adjusted, but I don't see how the brake pads can go any lower. Taking bike in tomorrow but thought maybe I could get someone on here to comment. |

Expert 792 Leicester | Subject: RE: Top of brake pads rubbing tire If you bought the bike from LBS, take it back there, the brake block should be lower than it sounds. Front or rear? If you bought used craigslist etc, you're going to need a small round file and start taking the paint off the inside of the dropout. Don't do it yourself if you're not confident though, take off too much paint and get into the material and you may end up with misalignment. |

Master 2701 Salisbury, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Top of brake pads rubbing tire Thanks for the responses. 1) Remounted wheel twice, same situation. Even does it on my trainer wheel. 2) It's the back brakes. Bought bike new @ LBS in Charlotte. Nope, not comfortable filing that out...yet. |

You can usually tell by sound and "grabbiness" if it is touching the rubber vs. the rim. Sounds to me if the wheel is correctly in the dropout that it's either the wrong brake for the frame (some require "long-reach" calipers), or the wrong pad/holder. If you bought it new at the LBS they should make it right. |
