Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 8/8
Pre-race routine:

Packed night before. Woke up early, coffee, 2 bananas and half a piece of pound cake. Racked bike, diet Red Bull, and had to wait in long line for potty. Had very little time for warm-up.
Event warmup:

Put wetsuit on and swam a little. Never got comfortable and had trouble breathing (cold - nervous - don't know), exited water and then went back in. Thought about dropping out because of my cold and breathing issues, but then said, "let them pull me out"...
Swim
  • 13m 37s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Better swim than Sharon and less nervous, but need to allow way more time to warm-up. Despite all the OWS I have been doing, still a mess...
What would you do differently?:

More OWS.
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

Decent transition. Getting much better a balancing while taking suit off.
Bike
  • 52m 8s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.11 mile/hr
Comments:

The most beautiful bike ride I've been on since moving to Mass. Great course and the road was perfect.
Transition 2
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

Decent transition. Little wasted time.
Run
  • 45m 32s
  • 4 miles
  • 11m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Could not manage my breath and my cold was really kicking my butt at this point. I probably would have been 1-2 minutes/mile faster on any day in good health. Oh well...
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and then watched the 1/2 iron.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Chest cold.

Event comments:

Good race. Potties ran out of paper early on.

NO POINTER AT FIRST LEFT TURN ON RUN?!? I volunteered there last year and knew the turn was there and had a couple of folks out in front of me who took the correct turn. How could you guys have missed that from a staffing perspective? Otherwise bike and run turns and crossings OK (bike better than run).

Nice race Kevin. Every race is a chance to learn a new skill and something about yourself. You raced in not optimum health and finished strong.  Good for you!
