Subject: Lazy question about Bar End Shimano shifters
Not wanting to tear apart my bike's shifters to examine it myself...

I would swear I've seen people running shimano Bar End shifters turned "upside down" (like Campy's are)

I'd do it the next time I'm changing stuff around, but is there something specific I need to do to accomplish this?

Take the bar tape, the caterpillars all the tape off, unscrew the bar end shifter, take it off the one side, use a hex key to loosten it, swivel it 180 degrees, hex key it back tight, put the shifter back together, route the cable housing down the top of the aerobar, put caterpillars back over the housing, tape it all down then put the bar tape back on.

Odds are you already have all the tools to do all that so no, there's nothing specific, just patience.

If your aerobars are internally routed, you lose that by going on top of the bar, though.

The only issue I could really see is the cable routing starting on top of the aero extension, then wrapping under. No big deal for most, but you never know.

ahh so people actually rotate the entire shifter! That would explain some stuff.

I was thinking there might be some way to explode the shifter and set it back up upside down (while keeping the plugs right side up)

hmm have to tinker with it.

Yeah, it has to rotate as a unit. Otherwise the cable routing and pull direction would oppose each other.
