Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 13m 15s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/16
Pre-race routine:

Got there at 6, race started at 7:45

This is a Quebec Cup event so it brings out the hard cores. Very competitive field.

Set up my transition area, which took me 3 minutes and went to look at the gross swimming area.
Event warmup:

None.

Just chat with people and figure out the complex entry/exit into the different courses
Swim
  • 12m 23s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

Brutal swim with all the people.
Quebec cup events are very competitive.
Got my 310xt knocked off my wrist. My buddy got a cut eye.

Losing the 310xt, on top of the cost, was hard since I use it to pace my bike and run. I was totally blind from that point on and I am a person that needs help with my pacing
What would you do differently?:

Not wear the 310 on the wrist with the quick release. It's not made for a tri swim start
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

It was a long T2, the water was far from my bike, but everyone has the same problem
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Long distance between swim and transition
Bike
  • 35m 22s
  • 20 kms
  • 33.93 km/hr
Comments:

Did it without speedometer or cadence or HR so was a little lost
Kept a moderate burn in the legs and felt pretty consistent all the way through

I lost a lot of time in U turns and 90 degree turns, braking in order to not slide on sand/gravel.
What would you do differently?:

Practice bike handling skills. Since falling at tremblant, I'm a wuss.

Put backup cat eye on bike so if Garmin goes, I know what I'm doing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Run
  • 22m 4s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 25s  min/km
Comments:

Cramped up with 1km to go, just as I was passing someone I thought was in my age group. It hurt like a SOB so I backed off just enough to stay ahead of him but to keep the cramping in check.

It turns out he was in my age group and I did need to finish ahead of him to get points he had on me from the previous race
What would you do differently?:

It was hard without markers to know pace. Next time, not lose Garmin :-)
Post race
Warm down:

None, just chatted with 2 team members

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not having anything to help me pace. I don't push hard enough without numbers in front of me.

Event comments:

Nice people, well organized, but markers on the run are a must. There were none.

Overall happy.

Good job!!

Ça fait une course qui coûte cher un peu avec un Garmin dans le fond de la rivière...
