Total Time = 1h 45m 6s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 20-25
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Couldn't sleep! Pre-race jitters and stomach ache!
Arrived early... set up according to the BT's suggestions.
Had good conversations with other racers!
Event warmup:

Walked around area... looked in awe at how far the buoys went out!
Took lots of deep breaths
Swim
  • 20m
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

When I first began the swim, I could feel the panic setting in. Supposedly, several people could not go past the dock.. but I kept thinking positive thoughts. I could not do my practiced stroke the whole way.. but I did use several strokes and that helped a lot! I was even able to take in the beautiful scenery! What an amazing feeling!
What would you do differently?:

Next race, I would like to have more open water experience before hand. Improve my time.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I felt good about this transition, but I was a bit dizzy and wobbly from the swim. I just couldn't get going as fast as I would've liked.. I took time to eat a few bites of an energy bar, and that made the dizziness go away! I felt a bit fumbly even though I was very prepared.
What would you do differently?:

Next year, I'd like to have my water bottle sitting out ready to drink... I had to fumble in my cooler. Other than that.. I'd do this T1 the same
Bike
  • 00m
  • 11 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I loved this part of the race! I have a mtn. bike, and I think that made it more difficult.. but I went as fast as I could! I just kept feeling like I wasn't tired and the miles were zooming by!
What would you do differently?:

I'm getting a racing bike! For starters. I went around the corners really slowly. I felt weird.. so I need practice with that. I fell off my bike really badly about a month ago.. so I think I'm a little frightened of that.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I already had my shoes on.. hence the mountain bike thing... This transition was not too great. haha.. see... I always bike with gum and run with gum... and I needed a bite of the energy bar... but I put it in my mouth with my gum in my mouth and swallowed it all. I know you're all thinking what the heck? Well, so was I? It was like my brain was going a million miles a minute. Then I went to grab a drink of gatorade and I spilled it all over my towel haha.. and I was like.. what am I forgetting.. TAKE YOUR HELMET OFF...
What would you do differently?:

Next race, I at least have the experience of knowing what to expect after the bike... No gum.. careful with fumbly fingers.. Helmet off.. I think it will be smoother next time!
Run
  • 00m
  • 3 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

I began for the first few seconds going a bit too fast. I was really proud that I thought clearly and slowed down. I kept the pace the same the whole way. I didn't drink too much so I got cramps.. and I did start feeling a cramp. I used breathing to control it! I never walked and I was so proud of that!
What would you do differently?:

Go faster!
Post race
Warm down:

I just walked around and talked to people. Everyone was congratulating me. I saw several people I know that didn't realize I had trained for a tri.. they all said I didn't even look tired.. Like I didn't even just finish a race! Awesome! Ate a banana, drank water and gatorade!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My bike! Not enough experience in an open water swim.. and slight fumbling in transition areas.

Event comments:

I had voluteered for this race before and I lifeguarded for it a few years ago. The people there (workers and racers) are so friendly! It was extremely organized and I enjoyed every minute of it! I cannot wait to do it again next year! And kick some a**!

Way to go!! I chew and run at the same time as well...as silly as it sounds - it helps me keep my mind focused. I'm not sure if I could run without it LOL

Anway,

Great job - when's the next race?

Congrats on finishing your first race. It's a huge accomplishment.

Nice to see someone else's race report for the same race. I was beginning to think I was the only one who did this race. Check out my race report:

Hope to see you on the roads around Chesterfield/New Baltimore!
