Pre-race routine:

This is the way to Tri. Set-up bike the night before. In the morning I ended up leaving the hotel, walked 100 yards to transition and setup.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 5 minutes.
Swim
  • 31m 54s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim. I tended to avoid the crowds. The start was a little hectic, but I managed it very well.
What would you do differently?:

Not much--train..
Transition 1
  • 05m 41s
Comments:

Ok--the T1 was about 1/2 a mile from the beach. I had a first. I had my wife's helmet instead of mine. I had to back track and swap the helmet.

That's a first for me!
What would you do differently?:

Get the right helmet
Bike
  • 1h 18m 50s
  • 23.8 miles
  • 18.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Solid ride. The hill was much hiller than I thought it would be. However, I adjusted for the most part. The one error that I made was on a sharp turn that turned into a hill, I dropped by chain. I was heckled by the 55 year old I had been swapping back and forth with. And rightfully so. The second loop I did better, but ground my gears.

I did a great job in staying in the aero bars--probably the best I have ever one in a race.
What would you do differently?:

Should have biked the entire course the day before hand.
Transition 2
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

Good T2
Run
  • 57m 45s
  • 6.3 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran most of the course, except for the hill that I decided on the way out I would walk up. Also, I walked up the last hill before the hotel. It was a solid run--but I needed more conditioning.

Pacing was pretty solid--and as planned
What would you do differently?:

train!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back the race course to finish with Danette

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training

Event comments:

Good race -- especially for the first one. I would do this race again in a minute.
