Sunny
Total Time = 1h 32m 40s
Overall Rank = 774/3450
Age Group = 34-39
Age Group Rank = 169/572
Pre-race routine:

Had my cereal for breakfast. Got dressed, went to the venue. Parked (shoulda checked where I was before boarding the bus) and took the bus to the RecPlex. Set up my T area and walked to the swim start.
Event warmup:

Did some low impact aerobics and yoga with a few instructors who led the mass warm up.
Swim
  • 16m 10s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Still went out a little too hard in the start, but much better than Naperville. Gotta think about form.
What would you do differently?:

Practice sighting more and get more open water time. I was all over the course! Actually had a guy in a kayak redirect me at one point. Keep swimming and don't worry about your time or where others are.
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Gotta work on that T1! My zipper got stuck on my wetsuit at first, but I got it down by the time I reached my bike.
Fumbled around with my shoes at the mounting area.
What would you do differently?:

Gotta practice one way and one way only to get my shoes on more quickly.
Bike
  • 39m 38s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 18.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Decided to put a little more into it even though I knew my run would suffer. Stayed in aero position quite a bit and tried to keep pedaling.
Lost my gel packet in T1 somewhere. Darn.

What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe work on higher cadence or more power on the pedals. Also have to drink much more!
Find a better place for my Gu!
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

This felt pretty good too. Got my feet on top of my shoes about a tenth of a mile out and dismounted right at the line and started jogging with my bike.
One of the officials kept yelling "Stay to your right" even though my bike was way to the left so had to go way up towards the front and then back towards my spot. Oh well.

Got my socks and shoes on, then my shirt and headed to run start while putting on my hat and race belt.

What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 32m 47s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not drink nearly enough during the bike and was suffering on the run because of it. My mouth was like cotton by mile 1 and it was HOT!!
No shade and no wind to speak of.
Didn't walk except at 1 water station to try and rehydrate.
What would you do differently?:

Drink much more before and during the race. Make sure to get my gel packet.
Work on my running alot more.
Post race
Warm down:

Found my hubby and son and relaxed in the shade while I downed a bottle of water and 1.5 bottles of Propel. Aahhh!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm slow. Actually gotta drink more, get more energy for the run and do more brick workouts.

Event comments:

The only negative comment is the parking. My husband and son had to wait 45 minutes to park, missed the start. Then couldn't put the stroller on the bus. Going back they put him on the wrong bus for parking. Had to wait AGAIN for another bus. Big nightmare. Have to find an easier way. Probably will take the mountain bike with the trailer next year.

Great race, Brenda!  It was a lot of fun seeing you on the race course -- you were the rabbit I was chasing!

Brenda - It was great to see you again!  Great race, you're right about the bike etiquette out there, people were riding the whole length of the road and not moving over!  But overall a good day.  Sorry to hear your husband had a bad time with the busses, I wouldn't envy that with a 1 year old (boo!).   Your son is so cute!!!!  I'm sure he and dad were very proud of mom!

See you in 2 weeks at harbor lights!
