Bicycle Crossing
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 35m 38s
Overall Rank = 130/216
Age Group = F 25-29
Age Group Rank = 8/14
Pre-race routine:

Double checked everything in bag, had a balance bar, tried to psych myself up mentally.
Event warmup:

Mild swim just to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 18m 14s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

2nd open water swim ever, and it was hard. I felt cold, breathing was hard, and I was afraid to put my face in the water & breathe properly. I need to get over the fear of open water (and the things that live in it) and kick butt in the swim like I know i can.
What would you do differently?:

WET SUIT!
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Okay transition. I felt a little wobbly from the run, but otherwise I thought it was okay.

What would you do differently?:

Go faster. I spend too much time just dawdling. I need to speed up my T1s a lot.
Bike
  • 44m 19s
  • 13.9 miles
  • 18.82 mile/hr
Comments:

I had some bike issues this time but I still rocked the bike part. The left side of the front break was on the whole time and my rear derailleur was slightly misaligned so I was having some shifting problems. Other than those frustrations I was still able to go fast and I felt good. The road surface was all full of wholes and we had to ride over 2 sets of train tracks (at least I'm used to that!)
What would you do differently?:

If I notice my front break is touching my wheel again in a race I'll bend down and undo it. Not the safest thing, but I'd still have my rear break.
Transition 2
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

Good, fast transition.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn to dismount my bike while its still moving.
Run
  • 30m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt good with the run. I didn't push myself too hard and I purposely didn't look at my watch when leaving T2 so I couldn't get grumpy with myself for running slow. I just did what worked for me. I had to spit out my gummy bears b/c I tried to eat too many but other than that it was an okay run. not the best, but thats okay.
What would you do differently?:

eat less gummy bears and maybe push myself a little more.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, had some water, ate a few delicious bananas and 2 slices of pizza :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Open water fears/difficulties and running speeds.

Event comments:

This was a good race, and a good one to come back from the awfulness of the c'ville race. It wasn't my best race ever, but I felt good and I was doing this more as just something to do and to race with my training partner. For the most part I had a good time, and I think its one I might do again.

(I also just saved photos from the photographer's site. I didn't want to pay for prints but I didn't find a digtal option, hence the annoying blue bar across every photo.)
