Overall Rank = 8/12
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 1/2
Pre-race routine:

I had checked the park out the night before as I was worried about parking. I arrived 10 minutes before transition opened and scored the best parking spot there. Also a good place for my bike.
Event warmup:

Walking around, stretching and pre swim.
Swim
  • 09m 52s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was so sick with nerves at the beginning. The swim for some reason always does this to me. I think it's because I get so big headed about it. I want/need to be 1st out of the water, but 2 minutes before the horn went off I decided to set goals for MYSELF and race against ME and not anyone else. I stayed to the right of everyone else, it meant I had to swim more but I wasn't bunched up with everyone else and pretty much had a clear shot the entire swim, until the turn around. Ran into all the Olympic people and even swam over two of them. tehehe
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Felt I had a great swim!
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Sucky T1. Really have never worked on transitions. My hands were so cold I couldn't get my socks or shoes on so it did take longer. I hurried as fast as I could go.
What would you do differently?:

Practice this more! Get shoes that don't have friggen laces and straps.
Bike
  • 54m 3s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 16.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Got passed several times, but there was also an Olympic event too. Couldn't tell who was who. The last 2 miles I sped up and passed two people my age. THAT felt great :)
What would you do differently?:

Get my bike tuned up BEFORE the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Well if you can PR in a T2, this is it. LOL. In and out for me!
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing!
Run
  • 36m 32s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 11m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Pushed myself to be under 12 minute mile. Really only walked at the drink stations. SLow shuffle but I got it done and made my goal :)
What would you do differently?:

Train consistently at my worse event, which is this.
Post race
Warm down:

Does pancakes, sausages and bananas make a good cooldown?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fat.

Event comments:

Will do it again next year, slimmer and fitter.

Course: Don't know Ocean Shores that well but it was an out and back. The headwind varied making it a hard ride. I went all out, as fast as I could go. My gears are effed so luckily there were only a few rollers. Pedals kept slipping constantly making it even harder. Lovely ride though, especially when you could see the ocean. Really lovely :) Although one of the arsehole Oly guys whizzed passed me so fast and so close on his bike he almost knocked me over. He had his name on his arse! I was thinking, if you're going to ride like an effwit you probably shouldn't put your name on your arse. I did complain as it's an idiotic thing to do, plus I'm Scottish and I don't like to be messed with.
