Sunny
Total Time = 3h 05m 17s
Overall Rank = 546/668
Age Group = F25-29
Age Group Rank = 29/43
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race early, set up transition area, stood in line for the bathrooms a couple times, drank a bottle of accelerade right before the start, should have gone to the bathroom once more.
Event warmup:

Ran a little in my sandals between the transition area and the portapot line (so not a very intense warm up)! :-)
Swim
  • 33m 14s
  • 1800 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Still getting over a bad cold so I was coughing in the water and just overall trying to get through the swim. I haven't been able to swim much in the past month so my muscular endurance by the end was dwindling! But I was able to finish fairly comfortably and I was happy that I was able to keep on course much better than at my past tris.
What would you do differently?:

More long endurance swims, more open water swims.
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

Had a hard time getting off wetsuit and into shirt, I had run out of body glide.
What would you do differently?:

Get some more body glide. Once I was geared up I had no problems at all - I clipped in and started pedaling as fast as I could!
Bike
  • 1h 38m 36s
  • 27 miles
  • 16.43 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Not be sick!
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Felt like I could have done this a little faster. I think I was dreading heading out for the run. I knew it was going to be very hot.
Run
  • 47m 49s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Stopped a few times to walk. Stopped at every water station to drink a little and dump a little on my head to cool off. Could have run faster. Definitely had more in me but was coughing a lot still. Didn't have any trouble settling into the run, my brick workouts have definitely paid off. No cramps at all.
What would you do differently?:

Bring some gatorade with me, I think they only had water along the course, I usually run with gatorade during my bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Drenched myself with the hose!

Event comments:

I think I could have done sub 3:00 if I had been healthier. I was happy with the results though, this was my first olympic distance.

Course: Hilly and rough course, glad I had done it a couple times before the race. Still having trouble with breathing, coughing alot, sounded like I was going to have a heart attack or cough up a lung. Could have gone faster, I had a lot more in me muscularly. Got stuck behind a big van that I couldn't get around and then almost got hit by a Buick Reatta who was backing out of their driveway in port deposit - that was really really scary! Then I was stuck behind another car, the driver was smoking so that really helped out with the coughing situation. Overall, I enjoyed the course, it was cool outside, just enjoyed being out there.

Ok, no excuses for being sick, cause I would LOVE to have your time on my best day!  Really good job there - and if you do it when you're well, you should be able to break 3:00 easily I should think.

Congrats on your first tri! Looks like you kicked some butt! Funny about the oldest bike category - I bet it felt good when you passed people with super expensive bikes!!
