Pre-race routine:

Had an hours drive to get to the event so up early. I don't usually head off without breaky but just couldn't force myself to get anything in.
Had a gel & some powerade in the car on the way to the event.
The wait was pretty long as the event started late and it was FREEZING!!
Event warmup:

Didn't do an official warm-up but walk a few k's to the start line.

What would you do differently?:

I had a really crap run, the first 10k I have ever done that took me over an hour. Not really sure what it was but my HR was high from the get go - perhaps the wind?? Right now I don't know what I could have done differently but this was night and day compared to my last 10k (53min).
Last time I felt really strong the whole race this time I just wanted to pack up and go home after the 4k mark!
Post race
Warm down:

This was a shocker. Normally I drive myself to and from events but this time my daughter wanted to come and watch so my hubby drove me in with the kids.
They were supposed to wait for me at the finish line, I didn't see them when I crossed so it was a bit ominous then. 2 hours later I begged some poor lady to use her mobile phone to call my husband. 30 minutes later he turned up. They couldn't find me so they went shopping!!
I was frozen to the bone and had stiffened right up so needless to say I was not a happy chappy by the time I set eyes on him!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not really sure, I think I just need to chalk it up to one of those days when it just doesn't go to plan.
More speed training will definitely help but I didn't plan to run a fast race just do it in an ok time without pushing too hard (didn't want to go into the new week tired and sore so I could stick to HIM plan). I would have been ok with the time had it not hurt so much! If I did 1:03 and it was a relaxed run I would have been ok but for it to hurt like it did and to have a crap time made me pretty grumpy.

Event comments:

I think I rambled on enough above :)

Course: The course was really hilly this year, a new course from last year. Started with a small section of flat then went uphill for a couple of k. Nice course along the river and around the tan. The wind was up all day and when it hit head-on it was pretty strong.

Sounds like the cold weather messed things up....keep up the good effort.
