Pre-race routine:

I was at Hershey Park yesterday ad I actually managed to sleep for about 2 hours of the trip back. Surprisingly I also slept last night. I got up at 4:15 and was also able to eat. That's a nice change. I ate an uncrustables PB&J when I got up and had a little bit of crystal lite. I got a cab right away and headed to transition. Pretty easy morning.
Event warmup:

No warm up other than the mile walk to Swim start. Ate a banana on the way.
Swim
  • 23m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 36s / 100 meters
Comments:

1 min better than last year, but I wanted to do better.
What would you do differently?:

I dunno. Just go faster.
Transition 1
  • 09m 15s
Comments:

Long T1 due to run back to transition. I could do this faster. I also forgot to put on my HR monitor and was looking for it. I didn't find it. It was under my bag. I found it after the race.
What would you do differently?:

Don't look for the HR monitor
Bike
  • 1h 50m 17s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 13.52 mile/hr
Comments:

So very poor. I need to work on this. I am really restricted by my fear. I ride the brakes down every hill which also means I don't have the momentum heading into the next hill. I wish I could get over this. I so suck at biking.
What would you do differently?:

Stop panicking and learn to be comfortable going fast. I think it all boils down to bike handling. I need some lessons so I feel like I have better control.
Transition 2
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

Not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

go a little faster I guess. No speed laces today
Run
  • 1h 15m 36s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I have not run more than 5k in a year. I was very pleased with this run. I was way under trained here. I need to work on the running and I know I can improve at lease a little.

It was great seeing my family along the run. My wonderful BF got my 3 daughters out of the house and there on time. They help motivate me. I did not grow up with athletics at all. I want my kids to have it as part of their lives.
What would you do differently?:

Train. I am learning Pose running now. I hope that helps.
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed a granola bar and some water. Had to walk pretty far with kids and dad to his car. Then off to transition to get my bike and then biked the 2.5 home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

fear and lack of training

Event comments:

I was going to defer, but happy that I did the race. I did 3 min better than last year, but I know I could have done better. I am happy that my fitness level is such that I can do an Oly with almost no training and finish.

great job considering the limited training.  And I am in the same boat as you with the hills.  scares me to death flying down hills.  I am not  a speed demon.  I ride the brakes too
