Did anybody see that rider (sorry, I didn't get his name) take the turn too wide on one of the decents? He steered off the road and down the mountain. Just wondering if he is OK and if he got back on course.

It was Oscar Pierero (sp?) on Phonak.  It was on the first descent and he managed to find a "soft spot" off of the road.  He managed to get back with the breakaway without any injuries.

Yeah, he just kinda took that curve too wide, and obviously had a decision to make, fall off his bike or go off the side of the road.  He had a safe place to go off, fortunately, got back on the road, no problems, and caught back up with the breakaway.  He faded later and was caught by the peloton.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ANY PART OF THE DAY'S STAGE AWAY IN YOUR THREAD HEADING!        TRY TYPING IN "SPOILER"  SO THAT WE WILL KNOW NOT TO LOG ONTO THAT THREAD.      I LIKE TO WATCH THE TAPED DAY'S EVENTS AT HOME AFTER WORK AND KIND OF LIKE THE SURPRISE.

I remember a number of years ago when Johan Bruyneel rode straight off a cliff on a descent, must have tumbled 10 feet down a steep embankment. He scrambled back up, got on the bike and away he went. Those guys are tough!

One of the "all time" classiest moments in the TdF was a few years ago when Jan Ulrich went off the course while he and Lance were in a breakaway.  Lance stopped, waited for Jan to get back on the course before continuing the race (and beating him).  The mind and heart of a real champion.
