Pre-race routine:

I got to the race site super early - they were still setting up. I had to go to the porta potty 3 times before we finally started! Laid out all of my race gear - my tri back is way to big for this area - I won't take it next time.
Event warmup:

Jumped in the pool and did several laps to warm-up. I really didn't stretch or anything.
Swim
  • 11m 14s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 30s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

The best thing about my transition was removing my cap and goggles. It went downhill from there. I thought I did it fast but I was unorganized. I took too long to get my socks on and I did not run w/my bike or jump on. I got up to speed okay.

What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to transition. Practice sequence of things to do. Maybe not wear socks on bike?
Bike
  • 40m 34s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I went the wrong way on the bike course after the first loop which cost me about a minute or two.

I felt pretty good on ride. I was over 22 mph on a majority of 3rd loop. I wish I had another loop to improve my average!
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to course!
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Again, I was not organized. I did not have a specific plan during transition. I felt very rushed and was out of breath and felt stressed.
What would you do differently?:

Have a plan! Calm down as I am going through transition and get mentally ready to run.
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.1 kms
  • 09m 41s  min/km
Comments:

My Calves were on fire for the first mile. I kept running through it. I wanted to push to stay at 10 minute miles. I walked through aid station. Pushed it at the end.
What would you do differently?:

RELAX!!!! I felt stressed most of the run. I think it started in transition.
Post race
Warm down:

I drank a cup of Gatorade then water. I did no stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I used too much caution throughout the race. During the run my legs were very tight. I did not relax during the run.

Event comments:

This was a fun race. It provided a good alternative to my training schedule.

Course: This was a fun easy course that gave me a chance to practice my transition and get my first tri in for the year. The swim was easy - but the snake swim was a little frustrating for me. I was not able to push off the wall like I wanted to. There were three other people around me and it took me awhile to get around them. The bike course was fun. It was mostly flat w/a couple of very short hills. The run was very easy and flat to slightly downhill

Hey Janine, nice race! We'll have to try and meet up if you're planning on doing the one in September. I agree with you on not being able to push off the walls. I had the same problem, though I didn't really have a lot of people around me. You kicked your 10 min/mile goal's butt with 9:41. Good job!
