Subject: Good places to ride around Asheville?

Hi, all! I'm going to Asheville for the first time in a few weeks for work, and I was wondering if anyone can suggest good routes. I'm hoping to get in at least one ride while I'm up there.

Thanks!

Thanks, y'all! I had not thought of that. Now, a really stupid question, which road is considered the Blue Ridge Parkway?

I just moved to the area myself.  Haven't done the blue ridge parkway but there are quite a bit of cyclists on it.  Very scenic.  If you take US26 SE, you will hit Hendersonville.  Between Hendersonville and Etowah they have very hilly roads.

Enjoy your visit.

Check out some of the routes posted by LBSs

Motion Makers has several routes I've used and Blue Ridge Cycle Club has a lot of cue sheets posted as well.

Be aware that you should have lights on your bike to ride the parkway.  I think it's required, though you'd be nuts to go through those tunnels without a light anyway.  Asheville's in a valley, so either direction you go on the parkway involves a pretty good climb out.  If you head south you'll go through the longest tunnel on the parkway at something over 1400'. Head north and you can ride to Mt. Mitchell, highest point on the east coast.  No trucks, more patient drivers make this a pretty good road.  The LOADS of dudes on Harley's can be a pain, though.
