Sunny
Total Time = 2h 52m 33s
Overall Rank = /600
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 11/13
Pre-race routine:

tried to eat light breakfast but no appetite. toast , few bites fruit, coffee * water. reviewed transitions.
Event warmup:

light stretches, walk/jog to race area.
Swim
  • 31m 14s
  • 1320 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

most horrible "swim" ever- long wait- delay in start & in last wave-started to back & side of wave just could not relax * find rhythm- ended up doing a real "stroke medley" breast, side, free- just ENDURED. Most others had wetsuits...water was comfortable but I bet the buoyancy would have been a help to confidence-
What would you do differently?:

everything!
Transition 1
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

need to learn to do shoes on bike, need to do something to decrease post swim dizziness
Bike
  • 1h 33m 14s
  • 24 miles
  • 15.45 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

shoes on bike, more hill trining, keep working on strength & cadence, shorten transition time, drink more
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

tri suit.
Run
  • 48m
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

was too fatigued at the start. no fuel or fluid of my own, killer back of rt thigh cramp at mile 2 most likely due to above.
What would you do differently?:

need to learn about hydration/nutrition, and go slower first mile.
Post race
Warm down:

walk and hydrate, talk to a few other racers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

strength & endurance, hydration, nutrition. Horrid swim- also not a confident start....

Event comments:

Chose this race to challenge & push- see what limiters are-it did this for me ! Not thrilled with performance on swim or run- bike was ok- but am glad to have finished in under 3 hrs given level of condition & insufficent fuel/fluid....Definitely learned from the experience

every race is a learning experience, isn't it?

You should be proud of yourself for pushing the limit.  You did it!
