Pre-race routine:

I woke up and ate my frosted flakes. I also ate my banana. I then packed up my car. As I was going to open my garage, my mom all of a sudden bolted up becasue she was still sleeping and suppose to becoming with, and said she would be ready in 10 mins. We actually had more time than that, but I thought it was funny.
Event warmup:

I stretched my arms and walked the new run course a little.
Swim
  • 06m 44s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well It wasn't my best swim ever, but it wasn't my worst swim ever. It was right in between. We were suppose to have 4 people do a running start every 5 seconds. Yeah the first group couldn't count and 5 people went. You should of heard the crowd gasp. It was funny.
What would you do differently?:

I think I should start trying to warm up with a short 300-500 yard swim to help loosen me up. I do feel a little tight when I start the swim normally.
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

It was a long run through transition to find my spot. It was probably about 1 min worth of running. It still was a little slower than I would of liked.
What would you do differently?:

I need to start working and practicing the fourth discipline of triathlons more.
Bike
  • 36m 21s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 22.56 mile/hr
Comments:

This has probably been one of my best bikes ever. Even better than the last race. I was happy with the time. The course does get a little crowded on the second lap because of the number of participants, but there is really nothing I can do about this except zig zag through them.

I recognized this name on a tri suit for a kid that I saw and beat at my last triathlon in Wauconda. He passed me on the bike, but I kept him with in distance. When I got to the run, I was able to pass and beat him.

I also so a mountain bike tricked out with some aero bars. That takes some mad skills to ride aero with that!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, invest in new equipment but that is a rather expensive alternative that I can't afford right now.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

This was a great transition for me even with the long run through transition out on too the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m 27s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt great this whole run. I passed the one kid I saw from the last triathlon in Wauconda, that passed me on the bike and then just keep on chugging along.

I drank water at 2 of the 4 aid stations. I dropped a cup at one aid station and almost stopped to get it back, then I realized that was a smart thing to do and I can get some more at the next one. This is probably my 2nd best 5k run this year, so I was happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get some more hill training in there.
Post race
Warm down:

I found my mom and caught my breathe. I then grabbed some food. I then went to transition to wait in line for my bike becasue I remembered how long the line was last year.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think the hard week of workouts and not being a recovery week was probably my biggest limiting factor. I really can't be too upset, I dropped 7mins from last year.

Event comments:

This race keeps getting more and more expensive each year. I think that's because the race director is a WTC one. I don't know if it is worth it to pay $90 to do a sprint triathlon. I do like it becasue it is one of the bigger sprint triathlon in this area, but it is starting to become not worth the money.

Holy swim time!!! Nice!

I agree with you on cost. Only reason I will do this again is because I don't have to travel for it and my family can come see it.
