Elite Endeavors

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 49m 51s
Overall Rank = 359/370
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 17/18
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:45 and left my house at 6:30. Made a PB&J for breakfast and drank a little gatorade and water.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little, that was about it!
Swim
  • 12m 19s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was hard for me. I can swim a mile in a pool no problem, but this was my first ever open water swim (I know, I should have practiced). I was a lot more winded than I thought I would be.

The zipper of my Louis Garner TigerShark suit broke while putting it on, but I still wore it anyway.
What would you do differently?:

I was so exhausted that I walked to T1. I need to work on my open water swim so I can run to my bike! I'm planning on joining Team Toledo next summer so that I can join them in their open water swim practices at the lake.
Transition 1
  • 04m 48s
Comments:

I wore Zoot tri shoes and it took me forever to clean the sand off my feet and get them on.
What would you do differently?:

I need to shave a good 2 minutes on my time and really practice cleaning my feet and putting shoes on! Next time I'll bring a tray of water to dip them in like I saw others do.
Bike
  • 52m 41s
  • 13 miles
  • 14.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Good course, very little hills. I felt good on the bike. My goal was to do 4 min miles and I came just over that.
What would you do differently?:

I'm currently riding a Trek Hybrid and know I would benefit from a tri bike or a road bike. I also need to log more miles to get down to a 3 min mile pace.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

No shoe changes, so had a fast transition.
What would you do differently?:

Need to be in better shape to run in run out!
Run
  • 39m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

The run is my weakest for sure. I did a 5k last year and my time was about 37 min, so I'm happy that I was only 2 min slower despite swimming and biking first!
What would you do differently?:

I need to train harder and get faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Kissed my husband (he also competed), grabbed some Twizzlers and fruit, and drank half a beer provided by the beer tent. LOVE the fact that for ID I showed my calf.

Event comments:

It's my first so I don't have anything to compare it to. I expected there to be drink stations at every mile, but there was only one at the beginning of the race and one 2 miles in. I could have really used one at the 1 mile mark.

Good job - sounds like you had fun and learned what you need to do different next time. x2 on the sand on feet and the getting "legged" for a beer

Congrats.  I was there and mile one had a table, but it was confusing if it was for us at mile one or for the people finishing the race.  Did the kid with the hose get you?  He cracked me up.  people were running over to him so he could spray them.  It was a fun race.  Congrats again.

He sure did!  I loved it!  There was a little girl spraying a hose near the turn around, I let her get me too.

My husband and I are already planning on doing next year's Sylvania Tri.  My in-laws are even thinking about getting in on the action and doing a relay!
