![]() Swim
Comments: still struggle with my ows times. i got funneled to the outside which was nice for the first 300meters for swimming, but i added at least 50meters to the swim becuase of it. still have mental problems with swimming. i get too anxious and my heart rate goes up and i feel the urge to side stroke or breast stroke to calm down. it's not bad like a panic, it's almost a anxiety to perform. i know i can swim that distance in a much faster pace, but something inside my head won't let me push past my confort zone. the last 150 meters or so i finally started to settle in and swim smooth, but too late by then. the last 50meters was pretty hectic with everyone merging to come out on the ramp. more of a combat sport at that point...which was pretty cool really. What would you do differently?: not start on the outside. and not be such a puss. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: left rack pretty quck, but noticed my aero botle was rattling when i was running to the mount line and realized the velcro strap that keeps it in place wasn't on. had to try and thread the little velcro strap through the little slit with my hands a little shaky and breathing hard. after about 4 or 5 trys i lucked out and got it in and took off. proly 25 seconds of loss there. What would you do differently?: pay attention to small things like aero bottle strap ![]() Bike
Comments: good bike for me. it was my first race over 20mph and i nailed it at 21.1. whoohoooO! the training miles are paying off. What would you do differently?: push it a little harder. still had some left in me b/c i played it pretty conservative the first half. i was hoping for a 20mph pace so i didnt' push it for fear of blowing up, but turns out i had room for me. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: good t2 for me. took a hit of water at the rack. What would you do differently?: no drinking in transition is my new rule. i skipped the first aid station on the run b/c i just had a drink. just figured it was easier to get the water out of a bottle vs while running, but not doing that anymore. ![]() Run
Comments: happy with the run. thought my time would be better. first mile was at 8:30 and i was hoping to run each mile faster than the previous. i must have slowed down when running with a couple other guys near by. i guess i took on their pace and didn't notice it. took water at each station and also poured on my head to keep cool. no walking and no mental deamons on this run. last kick with half mile to go was good. ended with the feeling that i could have pushed it a little bit harder. although easier said than done. still happy with the run though. What would you do differently?: don't get sucked into someone elses pace. and don't fear the blow up early on. ![]() Post race
Warm down: sat in shade with a wet towel and water and BS'ed with a buddy that came to support me. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of experience i think is what it boiled down to. not really knowing my limitations. need to work on that. Event comments: awesome race.
