The lady-of-the-night who may or may not have been of apparent gender (and was perhaps mistaken about mine, who knows?) running after my BIKE propositioning me. Oh, I used to run and ride on Venice Beach, so name it -- woman in a meat bikini, dark oiled bodybuilders in gold thongs eating fire, this guy who used to ride a tricycle built with car tyres riding in a Speedo with a parrot on his handlebars, Chinese acrobats, really any performer imaginable ... Oh yes, the dead stuffed (real) monkeys on top of the two-storey-high bamboo poles with windmills on the top that moan in the wind, and cut to moan even more ... you win. |

The monkey thing is just going to give me nightmares....aaaagh! Had a bike collision with a live armadillo. Saw a bear on Sat on my bike. Saw false eyelashes on a run in key west....... Weirdest NON training sight? Saw a white girl with cornrows, barefoot, in a black satin nascar jacket sucking on a giant pickle. At Walmart. Shudder. |

I just happen to have lived in some really weird places. I had a friend who was chased by penguins during an ultramarathon on Antarctica ... |

Why bother? While training I once saw an, ahem, adult toy shaped like a part of the male anatomy on the side of the road. Really glad I never found out WHY it was there! |

Master 1929 Midlothian, VA | Subject: RE: What's the strangest thing you ever saw... Yesterday I'm out in the farm country and I'm constantly scanning the sides of the road looking for dogs. I did see one dog out at the side of the road. He watched me go buy without chasing, but I think he started barking AFTER I passed. That however was not the fun part. At one point I see something up ahead and wonder, "Is that a dog? Kinda big for a dog. And pale too." It was a PIG. Just rooting around at the side of the road in a ditch. Didn't see or hear me coming. As I passed, it looked up, JUMPED up in the air backwards, almost fell over, and hit the ground running back in the direction I came from. If I laughed any harder I'd have fallen off my bike! -eric |

Expert 2547 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: What's the strangest thing you ever saw... #1. Once I was in a group ride of about 30. In front of us a few deer crossed the road but left one behind. the last deer started running to cross right as we passed and turned with us so as not to get hit. He ended up smack dab in the middle of the pack running along with us. After about 30 yards in the pace line he rolled to the left and crossed the street. Never seen anything like it and figured about 10 of us were about to crash. No one did. #2 riding across a bridge over a river I saw a piece of wood on the shoulder, pointed it out and everyone moved to the left to avoid. As we passed I looked down to inspect it further to realize it was an ENORMOUS rubber dild0. Laughed so hard I almost got dropped. |

It recovered and took off as fast as it could. Fox and possum on the run the next morning. It was a weekend full of fauna sightings. |

When I got closer I realized that they were not dogs at all, but Miniture Horses! These little guys were like the size of Great Danes. 2) Momma deer and fawn in a industrial area. I stopped and watched them for a little while unitl they took off. 3) Elton John on a Vespa in London with papparatzi and fans all around. That was pretty funny seeing a super celebrity on a Vespa in downtown London |

It had gone a couple of hundred yards. still following the edge of the road. Questions entering my mind... How did it get there? Where was it going? |

There is not a body of water anywhere nearby. This fish was huge, probably 20 lbs or larger and fully intact. It had not started smelling fishy yet so it could not have been there long in the 90+ degree heat. My best guess is that it maybe flopped out of someone's cooler in the back of their truck???? |

Here in Florida we have eagles, hawks and ospreys. All too often they try to snag a fish that ends up being too big for them and they drop them. |

Deep in the Heart of Texas | Subject: RE: What's the strangest thing you ever saw... There is one spot on my regular ride which I have named the walking stick graveyard. Once I saw what had to be 40-50 large walking sticks on the shoulder of the road, mostly dead. This was within a 30 yard stretch of road. I have never seen that many again, but always see at least a couple at the same spot. Those bugs are freaky looking. |

Champion 6503 NOVA - Ironic for an Endurance Athlete | Subject: RE: What's the strangest thing you ever saw... melbel1038 - 2010-08-26 2:52 PM Two weeks ago I had a homeless guy drafting off me. He was wearing camo pants, a black shirt and hiking boots. His bike was a road-ish bike (ok I really don't know what it was, but it wasn't the typical homeless guy bike), he had like 4 bags on the back. He WAS wearing a helmet. He was going slow and I went around him. Thought I was well past him and five minutes later I glanced back and he was right on my wheel. I was probably going 17mph or so. Freaked me out. We stopped at a stop light, I turned around to say hi and when it turned green I floored it (ok whatever the pedaling equivalent to flooring it is LOLOL). It was beyond creepy. I have had two people tell me they saw him since that happened so I know I'm not crazy at least. I still can't figure out what the deal was. Was he mad that I went around him? Does he entertain himself by freaking out cyclists on that road? Redlined it. Cranked it. He probably wasn't homeless. Just a guy traveling on a bike with all of his possessions attached. Sigh! A man can dream, can't he? |
