I was really looking forward to it, but last week through my neck out and need to take some R&R and hope and pray and rely on my chiropractor to get me in shape to actually make it through the race.  I am mentally prepared-but physically my body is not cooperating! ugh!!

If anyone needs any help race morning, feel free to let me know, and if anyone forgets/needs some extra hammer gel or HEED i'll have plenty (gel will only be rasberry, HEED will be whatever flavor i grab, either orange or berry).

temp wise it looks nearly perfect, high of 72, mostly sunny.

Without a doubt the wind will pick up as the half goes on, the sprint course normally misses it, and the mini will only see real issues on lap two fof the bike.

for those racing the half (unless someone out there loves us), its normally ok/calm for the first bit of lap one or jsut a light wind, lap two starts to get annoying, lap three it really is not funny anymore.

bring some extra and warm clothes for anyone racing the half.

At that temp, you'll want htem after. you'll feel comfortable during the race, but because its not *that* warm out, when you stop you're body is going to cool off fast.

So I have taken the last week off or so. I am getting worried that it is going to hurt me.  I have been moving so really no time to train.

I did a 80 mile ride a couple weeks ago and I felt like I was on the verge of over-training. I just didnt have it in the tank So I decided to rest and just move. Now I am a little worried.

I am doing the half, but super stoked to race and give it a go.

Still thinking about doing this sprint. I did Hueston Woods and loved it (first tri in 20 years). I think I am officially addicted again.  Got a new bike two weeks ago and love it (2009 Cannondale slice Hi-mod 5). I have been watching the water issue and am still on the fence.  Also I am 10 minutes from the Portage Lakes, but my wife was out of town last weekend so I had my two daughters.  I think the girls were more exhausting then the tri would have been Smile.  If I don't make it down good luck to all.

Hey got another quick question. I read on HFP that they will give HEED and water in bottles for the HIM peeps. My question is what do you do with your personal bottles when they give you there bottles? and can you keep the HFP bottles?

How high is the traffic on the course? I was planning on riding the course on Saturday if its safe. Does anyone have a cue sheet? Thanks everyone for ur help. I'm excited for the half on Sunday!

to try and answer both questions:

read, the bottle exchange is when you pull back into the park at the turn around, call out what you want on the way in, turn, get it. drop your bottle BEFORE but near the aid station.

You drop yours, pick up theirs. you keep theirs. if you can find yours after that race you can getit, but it might be trash (they normally have some extra hammer bottles out though).

Tim: there is a course map on the websitem EASY to follow. I rode the course this morning, had a good time and have adjusted my time goals for the race for the better:-)

Some of the arrows are still on the road, and by sat they will be remarked.
traffic was low, saw about 9 cars in teh 2:18 i was on the half course.

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification on the bottle stuff.  Are you staying in the park all weekend? We are getting a cabin for the weekend. I plan on doing a short ride and short swim Saturday AM

I would like to be around 5:00 - 5:30. Not sure if that is realistic or not but that is my goal.

BRING A FLASHLIGHT.

I arrived around 5:30 last year and it was pitch dark.  I set up transition from the glow of my open cell phone.

Ok, I have a weather related question.  The forcast as of now is 55 low and 68 high.  Racing the Sprint, I will never see 68 and might not see 60.  Would I need to wear anything more than normal (arm warmers) or just HTFU...?

depending on how fast you are/how much the cold bugs you i might not even put those on (if you do roll them up ahead of time, WAY easier to get on when wet that way).

Usually the cold doesn't bug me.   If I can keep my head and hands warm I'm usually good to go.

If its in the 50s i would not worry. you might get a little cold but you'll be off the bike quickly. and if you stop to put clothes on, by the time you are dry/warm you'll be almostdone with the ride anyway.

if its really cold, put on a pair of thin gloves (thecheap 99cent ones from a gas station are awesome for this).

You;ll warm up on the run;-)

ahhhh - yeah, that was obviously a time goal on rereading.
narow your A goal down
for example
A goal: pick 5 or 5:15
set a b goal - 5:15 or 5:30
set a back up goal: finish uninjured

bring a flashlight anyway.
