Total Time = 1h 04m 38s
Overall Rank = 180/204

Age Group Rank = 15/17
Pre-race routine:

This was my first TAT ever, so there wasn't really a routine. I more-or-less just tried to keep my nerves in check.
Event warmup:

None really...just tried to get used to the crazy cold water!
Swim
  • 12m 5s
  • 400 meters
  • 03m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

It was so cold that I didn't want to put my face in for most of the swim - the cold was literally knocking the wind out of me. Instead, I swam head up breast stroke for the majority of it, and tried to keep as much of my body out of the water as possible! I was still managing to pass people doing front crawl and wearing wet suits though, so I felt like a pro star!
What would you do differently?:

Wear a wet suit! It would have helped with the cold and maybe allowed me to comfortably do front crawl and improve my time. Overall, I think I did well given the circumstances.
Transition 1
  • 04m 2s
Comments:

Time includes transition time and run up from swim time. Getting my shorts & shirt on were a bit of a hassle. Lost time putting socks on before shoes, but there's no way I could wear my shoes without socks! Walked bike out.
What would you do differently?:

Wear a tri suit so I don't have to struggle with clothing. Learn how to run the bike out of T1.
Bike
  • 27m 53s
  • 10 kms
  • 21.52 km/hr
Comments:

I suck at biking! I was getting passed by everyone and seemed to be working harder than all of them. This is definitely the area that I have to work on the most! Thank God I got through it.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice! I also might want to eat more for breakfast...I'm going to blame part of my poor performance on a possible lack of nutrition!
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

This went well. Walked bike into transition. Legs felt like jell-o already!
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to run bike in.
Run
  • 19m 41s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 07m 52s  min/km
Comments:

My legs were pretty much beat from the mess that was my bike, so it took a while to get into the run. About 750m in my legs were starting to feel better and I got into a consistent pace that I continued for the remainder of the run. There was nothing left in the tank for a sprint finish!
What would you do differently?:

Practice the brick. Run more often, and working on intervals to improve speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Eat food and celebrate with friends! We forgot to stretch because we were so excited that we finished our first ever Try-a-Tri!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of practice at the bike and run. Cold temperatures in the water

Event comments:

I loved this Try-a-Tri and because I had such a great time doing it I will definitely be signing up for more next year!

The event was run really well, and the venue is great!

Congrats on your first TAT.  You deserve a medal for swimming w/o a wetsuit, and passing people no less!  You definitely have a promising future in this sport.
