Overall Rank = 327/792
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 4/30
Pre-race routine:

Poptarts and water on the ride to the site.
Event warmup:

Parked at the high school and rode the bike in.
Run
  • 14m 31s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Lack of miles this year had me going in with less than stellar expectations. Quite surprised with sub 8's here. Thought I could start in any wave behind mine...oops. Held up our start so RD could jot my number down and adjust my start time. Hey, I wasn't the only one that did that though. I started with Amyjo to keep the competition stiff. Tried to keep up with Speedy Jim. Eventually edged ahead of Amyjo to make her keep up:) Had to get on the bike before her so she wouldn't get too far ahead. Run in was at opposite end of my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Besides the obvious, not much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

As good as can be expected.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster to my bike.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 9s
  • 21 miles
  • 18.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew I had to push it cuz Amyjo was on my tail. Caught Jim on the bike. Played cat and mouse with some little 9...yes 9....year old. There was no way he was gonna beat me. Heard some woman say "way to go little lady" to the little boy (long blonde hair) to which the little boy says "thanks, but I'm a boy" as he cruised up the next hill. Ha. Fully expected to see Amyjo around mile 10, no doubt begging for water. She didn't catch me til after mile 11. I lost sight of her around 15...ergggg. Finished up strong.
What would you do differently?:

Very happy with this cuz it was raining pretty good from mile 5 on. Took the hills and corners pretty conservatively as a precaution. No sense getting hurt.
Transition 2
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

My hands were FROZEN from the bike. Couldn't tie my shoes. Bike in was opposite end again, seemed like a long run to my rack. Run out was right there though.
What would you do differently?:

Wear gloves.
Run
  • 15m 30s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to get my frozen limbs moving faster. Clubs...I mean feet...just wouldn't turn. Finally got the feeling about a mile in. Raining again and I can't find Amyjo. Erggg... Jim passed me again...errrgggg. Couldn't keep up with His Speediness. Came to the end of the bike path and had to stop for traffic. What? They stopped us so 4 cars could go thru....erggggg. I swear, if not for that, I woulda found AJ;)
What would you do differently?:

Dress warmer on the bike so I am not numb for the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Ummm, had to warm up! Kim K and Nicole were there strappin' for us. Very nice. Kim K told me they just announced my name for third place Athena. Accepted "trophy" graciously. Found out at home with online results I actually took 4th. Not too worried about it though cuz I was shorted a "trophy" at the Pewaukee tri earlier this year.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Really took it easy this year.

Event comments:

Great food and very organized. Bummed they didn't have all the freebies this year.
