Swim
Comments: Pride never did nothing for no one. That being said, it wouldn't have helped my swim. Take it easy I tell myself, there's no point sprinting and dying on the bike 10 min later. That diligence was tested when the first pack was 10 sec ahead of me. Whatever this drafting is, I've never taken advantage of it, nor believe it exists. Nevertheless, I persued this pack with the energy I told myself to retain. Realizing the race is only 5% done, I pace myself slower. What would you do differently?: Borrow a wet suit? I think all those people in the main pack were of the sort. My fast-skin and I do nothing special compared to that. Transition 1
Comments: A great transition. Once again I brag to other people that I took 7 sec more to put socks on - I brag how my feet are bloodless. Luckily, my feet weren't wounded from the small pebbles on the path from the water to the racks. I took another 5 seconds putting the stuff that fell from my cycling shirt back in. I could have saved another 10 seconds by running fast, but I was startled at my heart rate from the swim, so I tried to lower it. What would you do differently?: I don't know... the olympic athletes run to their bike, put on their helmet and take their bike off... maybe someday I wont need to have food on me etc. Bike
Comments: They say races shouldn't be considered training - your training amount far exceeds your race time. However, I had my first hill workout of the year. A 3 or 4 min climb where I was out of my saddle in a 39-23 gear ratio. Maybe these spin classes help... I passed my first "rabbit" in a triathlon ever on that hill. Either the hill desensitized my lack of speed, or the roads became nicer after the hill... but I was zooming. Like I should, I fed a lot on the bike. Surprisingly, not to many people passed me on the bike; it made me feel strong. So strong that I wanted to zoom down the hill I climbed at full speed. In fact, there was no use in pedaling. I maxed at 66km/h, which isn't a good speed to realize you forgot to close the back brake quick release. A good thing however, 'cause I would have panicked and slammed that back brake. What would you do differently?: GET A PROPER BIKE FIT! Proper aerobars would help too. Train more, kick more people's asses. Transition 2
Comments: So I misjudged when the dismount line is, and pedal'ed for 500m on my shoes. Drop the stuff in your pockets, it's time to run! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Apparently running 1min/km faster than last tri only puts me 121st. Very upsetting 'cause that was the best run of my life. A few people pass me, except for that last one who was re-passed at the end!! What would you do differently?: Train more! Post race
