Just curious how many hours you work per week and how many you train.

45-50 hours of work.  Training varies thoughout the year from a low of 4 or 5 hours during late fall/early winter to right now when I will peak at about 15.

Work is very flexible (I'm a grad student), but most are upper-40's, in the summer some are around 30, the worst are around 60. Train around 7 hours a week usually, sometimes 10, will peak around 14 in the coming year.

Work 60-70 and train 8-12 on a regular week.  The training hours will increase some leading up to key events.

I'd be curious to see "family time", if applicable. Finding balance between work and training is straightforward, but my family adds a whole different dimension. We have our 2nd child on the way (due on 10/8), so I'm focused on running right now with an occasional bike to mix it up.

40 hours working. In peak training this season was averaging around 12 hours/week. These 12 hours aren't counting the time involved in prepping for workouts, traveling to the pool or to places to run or ride or fueling myself for workouts and analyzing my workouts. All of those extra prep hours add up!

If i were to add those up, i'd have to add 1.5 hours PER workout.

And since i do 2 workouts a day........ thats 21 extra hours a week.  So that would be a grand total of 51 hours this week spent on training/prepping/travel/afterworkout fueling/showering

I am in the office 40 hours a week. I train anywhere from 3 or so to 8 or 9. (Although average, in season, is probably around 6-7. Right now though, since I was only riding, I was getting in 8-14 a week, plus 5-8 hours of walking a day)

work is ALL over the place depending on time of year/whats going on.

some weeks with clinics/camps/other training things, or race weeks, i can work 50+ hours, others as little as 20. totally depends.

trainingduring bigger summer weeks is 24-30 hours,
spring and lower weeks 14-16.

again they are all over the place depending on where in the year i am.

So 6 hours a week is a good week for me. Many, many times I am only getting in 3 or 4 hours. A longer week would be a result of being able to get a babysitter for a couple hours to let me do a run or a long ride.

8-12 hours week training...but there are times I find it is very hard to balance it all..was thinking of Im next year but after this past month, I am realizing i really dont have the time for the training unless I sell my restaurant (and that is not happening ) Laughing

Danny,

Just out of curiousity, what are you training for?  20-25 hours/week is massive and is probably more than most pros do.  Or at least on par with what they do.  Is that s/b/r or do you have other stuff thrown in there?

If I were doing 25hrs of s/b/r a week, I'd have to quit my job and sleep 12 hours a day or I'd burn out within a couple of weeks!

When I was working 50 hours a week, I was training 12-16 hours per week.

Now I am working 60-80 hours per week and training.....does time on BT count?  Even that is way down though.

Gotta love self employment!
