Comments: Water was 1 degree too warm to use wetsuits. Swim waves were ordered a bit strange. The waves were Open, all women, M 0-39, M 40-up. This causes a lot of congestion as the mens waves overtook many of the women. Lots of congestion at the buoys. What would you do differently?: Train more. I didn't have much time to train for the swim due to schedule constraints. Transition 1
Comments: Long run into transition. Had to run down a big steep hill that was grassy and wet. Otherwise it was fine. Exit to the bike course was a bit strange as you had to ramp over a wide median in a road to get to the mount/dismount line. What would you do differently?: Run faster. I need to push a bit harder while running in and out of transition. Bike
Comments: During the second lap the wind started to pick up out of the north. Aero position was definitely a help. Because the course was 4 laps there were a lot of bikes on the course. Definitely came across lots of people who were drafting on purpose. What would you do differently?: Work on carrying a bit more speed through the corners and timing my passing better so I don't get caught in line waiting for a gap to pass. Transition 2
Comments: Running without shoes caused alot of dirt and grass to get on the feet as I crossed the median into transition. I had to take a little extra time to clean the feet before I got the shoes on. What would you do differently?: Not use socks. I just got new shoes 2 weeks earlier and was not comfortable running a 10K without socks in these shoes. Run
Comments: My goal was to go sub 8 min/mile. The cool air helped keep the core temperature in check. Only a few people passed me and I kicked it in hard at the end and passed 4 people in the last 400M. What would you do differently?: Start pushing the pace a little earlier. I started to speed up at mile 4 and I think I should have kicked it up at mile 3. Post race Warm down: Not much, walked around a bit and shook out the muscles. Then tried to get warm. What limited your ability to perform faster: Low amount of swim fitness. Event comments: Lots of volunteers. Bike course was well policed and intersections were almost all staffed. Run course was well marked. Last updated: 2010-03-01 12:00 AM |

Got to the race early. Set up transition. Only a few bikes in my area when I got there. No issues getting a good spot on the rack. After my layout was complete I relaxed and sipped some Gatorade up until race start.
Not much. My swim wave started 4 minutes after the first wave and it was cool so a warmup would not have done much. I got the shoulders loosened up a bit.
