Over in the "official longhorn/Austin 70.3" forum under the iron distance groups they were talking about it. From what I read that it quadzilla is in the run, however we will be going down it instead of up it.

That's what it looks like from the course map - a reversal from past years. Glad, I think. But coming up the other side will still be some work.

I presume, since it's in the rules, that wearing a top is required on both the ride and the run? It might have been Longhorn's pre IM that I'm remembering shirtless runners. I'm not that guy, but a friend/first timer is asking.

That's just wrong!!!  I did that race in 2007, and that run course was brutal!

Well I did it in 2007 (2 loops) and 2009 (3 loops)... both years were brutal in their own right. Quadzilla or not.

Are you serious?  Running down Quadzilla?  That would really suck.  I'd rather run up that sucker.

All IM/WTC events require a shirt/top.  They have DQ'd plenty of people for not wearing one.

Um yeah, can't say I liked the cross country parts they had in 2007 and 2008. 2009 was nice... no off roading. Kept my shoes clean.

Sounds like I was OK missing 2010.

I was not a fan of the cross-country part. So was the big hill we ran down on the grass next to the road Quadzilla?

I decided that my name for the hill we ran up is Quadzilla's Revenge.

The Return of Quadzilla?

For the folks that did the race in 2009 and 2010, do you think the run course was faster, slower, or pretty much the same? Sure, in 2009 it was all on pavement, but we had to run 3 loops, which meant we had to do those rolling hills 6 times.

My run was a little slower, and I'd like to say it was because of the off-road, but I probably just need to run more.

Cool

Yeah, you need to run more

My run was faster in 2010 vs. 2009  by 8 minutes (2:00:xx vs. 2:08:xx).  I'll chalk that up to better discipline on the bike and run regarding pacing and nutrition (still need to improve there).  I think the mental factor of knowing you only have to run the loop one more time after the first go-round helped too.  Knowing that I still had to do it 2 more times after the first loop in 2009 hurt mentally.

Pavement is faster than offroad but offroad is theoretically better for your body (assuming you don't roll an ankle or something) which may lead to better endurance?
